Original Magician finished

Brodak kit of the Original Magician, 43 inch wingspan. Nice kit, easy build, leadouts and tip weight per plans. My typical la25 with muffler pressure and Hayes 3 oz. clunk tank, APC 9x4 prop. Monocote wings, rest is Minwax sanding sealer, Rustoleum primer ,metallic paint and clear coat.  First flight was great, good off the board , no mods needed as far as my spotter or me could tell. Can't wait for weather to break for more testing!

Looks like you applied the answers in your Rustoleum post very, very, well! If you want it to look really good at the field, set it next to your grey "saucer", the ugliest plane in the history of model aviation.

I love this airplane, plan on scratch building one from Midwest plans next winter! Total weight including engine, muffler and tank is 29 oz. Rustoleum gold metallic paint matches Monocote metallic gold very well, i figured this out after some trials. Lines are 59 feet .015. The OS La 25 with muffler pressure and Hayes 3 oz. clunk using 1/2a bladder material for the pickup is a very versatile and reliable setup i have found. My Skyray weighs 36 oz with the same set up and flies very well.

I thought I read that Rustoleum metallics and clear weren't fuel proof?

Andrew, i had tried that combo on my 1/2a's back in my very beginning builds  ,only in reverse. I was spraying the clear as an undercoat to fuelproof and then the paint with nothing over it,, didn't work!! But this has 2 coats of the Rustoleum clear over the paint and seems to be good so far but more time will tell .

It is one thing to have a neat idea, and quite another to pull it off.    The part many of us overlook is the " . . . i figured this out after some trials. " part.

Ray is pretty thorough, in general, and this is a good example.

I still very much consider an unflapped, well-built Magician to be one the all time best control line stunt trainers available. With up-to-date modern power, it is still probably second to none.
