Just remember you're safer from harm in the airplane than you are in the car driving to the airport!

If I'm remembering correctly the big red twin in the drainage ditch was simply a matter of not setting the brakes or chocking the tires.

Wow! Kind of photos...Elwn!!! n~

This photo of the "lightplane hangin in the wires outside of our Boeing Wind Tunnel"
I REMEMBER DRIVING INTO THE OL' B-18 GATE THAT MORNING..and what a rush to watch the GREAT SAVE BY THE ALL THE RESCUE VECHICLES....AS THEY SAVED THE DAY...both the pilot and the airplane.
Sadly...
That same pilot's 9 lives ran out a short time later....and Sadly.... he died in anothe unrelated airplane crash months later.
Hummm?
Guess if one lives by the airplane sword...if one is not so lucky...one can die by it... :'(

I have no idea, with all that open space, how that animal managed to run into that tree.

The one I would give a trophy to is the 5th one down in the first column, "747 Jet Blast".  Watch the pickup truck.

The hardest to watch is the "MD-80 Hard Landing".  Looks like some modelers landing.

The MD-80 hard landing was done by an FAA test pilot and was the second hull loss during the MD-80 certification flights.
What an airplane...

I'm pretty sure the F-16 ejection pic is a fake. The ejection is real enough, but it looks like the back ground was Photoshopped.

I'm pretty sure the F-16 ejection pic is a fake. The ejection is real enough, but it looks like the back ground was Photoshopped.

There is ALOT of footage of this accident.  Motion picture film from both the spectator area, AND some awesome film from the cockpit cam.  While the pilots preflight planning may have been less than perfect (he planned his solo routine with the wrong field altitude), his decision making was razor sharp.  Looking at the cockpit film, I counted 9 frames from his first motion to the seat handles to the jets impact with the runway.  By then he was safely out.  He waited to the last second to be sure he could not clear the ground, then punched.

Tom McClain knows much more about the crash, he may even know the hapless pilot.  He made a good point of commenting that the F-16 flight computer made its contribution to the crash by limiting the pilot to 9g when he had about 12 available.  If he could have pulled even 10 or 11 he would have missed the ground.
