Online Vendors
« on: December 22, 2007, 02:03:46 PM »
I am a newbie to the C/L side of model aircraft. If you have read any of my previous threads, you will realize that I have been involved in R/C pattern and scale for more then 30 years and currently about to make the switch to C/L stunt. Because R/C is more popular then C/L, there seem to be an abundance of on line vendors from who you can get just about anything that you need. Since I am new to this area of the sport, I have not found too many places on line that have much of a selection of engines. I am looking for a good .40 - .46 engine, the brand of engine that I am familiar with is OS. I have also contacted Brodak in regards to their .40 engine and have been told that this engine will not be available until around Feb '08.

Where do all of you get your equipment from? Local hobby shops or on line vendors?

Thanks and Merry Christmas,

Tom

You just haven't looked in the right places or been around long enough yet! There are several good venders who can be reached on line, and many are found in the vendor section of this forum. Also, much of what you seek is in between the covers of Stunt News, the newsletter/magazine of PAMPA and comes with a membership. I have dealt with almost all of them directly or indirectly , and they are all pretty reputable guys. Some even set up and sell at contests. It is REALLY easy to not have enough money sometimes at a contest  when these guys are there. I don't know what part of the country you are in, but make some effort to find out when and where contests are next year and hit as many as you can, even just to watch. Join PAMPA, and spend a little more time on the internet, and you will soon be overwhelmed with information. You'll just have to disseminate that info into what you like and will work for you. The only thing I haven't been able to find is MORE SPARE TIME TO BUILD AND FLY!
Welcome, good luck, have fun, and Merry Christmas!

I couldn't agree more. Great people.

You are fortunate to have found this forum. A great bunch of people and a vast store of information and knowledge that is freely shared.

I got back in to C/L last year after being totally away from the model airplane hobby for 35 years. I am the only one in our little group that wasn't or hadn't been an RC flier. The one thing that surprised me was that the choice of C/L things was probably better than it ever was, in many respects. This is due pretty much entirely to Brodak's and "cottage industries". You probably will not find a lot of stuff in you LHS. The volume is just not high enough for many of them to stock it it.
