One More ARF Nobler Going Together
« on: December 09, 2010, 10:14:40 AM »
Last night I decided to start assembling another NoblARF, so I got out the fuselage and an OS 35S and drilled the mounting holes. This time all 4 holes came out slightly outboard of center. It's as though this one is slightly smaller than my first one. I wanted to reinforce the mounts anyway, so I will see how much room I have and just how creative I need to get. This one will also get the same type of steel clunk tank as the first one got that worked so well. We'll see just how creative I need to get before I'm finished.

I don't know what to tell you as mine is on it's third engine.  The latest is an EVO .36.  No cowl as I may want to go back to the Fox 35 one of these days and don't want to cut up the cowl.  Engine mount stubs out in the open with no reinforceing. H^^

Hey guys
Is this the Top Flite Nobler?  If so, how would you rate it flight quality.  I have a couple of EV0 .36s and a Brodak .40 looking for a home.  I have given some thought to the TF Nobler, all opinions are welcome.

This is my second TF NoblARF.  I had some issues with tighter turns inside vs outside, but some thrust wedges solved that. It still didn't turn terribly tight. It also needed some tip weight. All in all, I like it.

Looking good Phil.

Are you using the stock tank?

Phil has a metal clunk tank he said he will use.  I got a plastic clunk already set up from Tom Morris.

Looks like a very bad stress point at the firewall.  If I had done the reinforcement, it would have been ply triangle peices on the outside of the engine mounts to the firewall.  Some like gussets on wing ribs except glued to outside of engine mount.  Have seen some that lused balsa the thickness of the gap between fuse side and engine mount.

The stock plastic tank is garbage. I have the tank problem solved with a steel clunk tank made from a KAP-PAK 5 1/4oz rectank. I did a feature on the tank on my site, then Worldnet died and took the pictures with them. I have to make another one for this new plane, so I will restore the pics as I go along.

Looks like it should work.

Hey one thing that someone told me to do with mine was to put some plywood on the top to help keep the mounts from crushing when you bolt the egine on.

Just a thought.

Keep us posted, and look forward to the tank picutres.

I'm looking for some Titanium, but will most likely have to settle for stainless steel for the mounts.

I need to get busy on the new NoblARF. I just planted the old NoblARF. Ran out of fuel at the exit of the cloverleaf with predictable results.

Nothing like a whole lot of "overkill"! LL~  Nothing wrong with steel, aluminum, circuit board, or anything else to distribute the load, but you already know that. ;D

Man, titanium in an ARF nobler............  :o <= n~ :## H^^
