One Flawless ARES
« on: December 10, 2015, 07:10:30 AM »
My friend Keith Palmer just finished scratch building a beautiful ARES.  He is clearly a master craftsman and has been building for about 50 years, but mostly RC scale and RC pylon racers.  He flew CL combat many years ago and did some CL sport flying, but he recently got the control line bug and learned the pattern with a 20 year old Ringmaster (by the way one of the nicest Ringmasters I have seen) he had lying around.  He got in the maiden flight yesterday on the ARES, and it flies well, although the wheel pants got scratched on the second flight when the engine quit while inverted and Keith did a miraculous job to save it, but the landing was a bit rough.  Turned out to be a bad "brand new" glow plug in the Fox .35.  If I know Keith, he will probably have the wheel pants repaired by the end of the day.  Enjoy the photos of a "20 pointer"!

what a great looking stunter!
let your friend know that the good ol Fox .35 likely vibrated the element out of the engine. Fox .35 is like a Harley....they make a nostalgic sound but shake a lot.

I have seen Keith's Ringmaster and combat planes . They are some of the best finished and built models I have seen, right up there with Charlie Reeves , Roy Decamera and Joe Adamusko .  With simple clean  paint themes,  well built and expertly finished models, even the combat planes .

You know the models,  that makes just you keep looking at the details ... I can't wait to see the Ares

That really is a nice piece of work, great paint.
(I normally try not to be critical but I'm pretty sure that's way to much rudder offset)
I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

Yeah, Magnificent airplane.  Get rid of that Rudder Offset.  Never get it trimmed with that rudder offset!

It's got a lot more elevator area than stab area, Is that unusual?
