Oldest flyer
« on: January 11, 2007, 04:56:35 PM »
I was going to start a topic on who is the oldest flyer, but I guess Shultzie wins.  I saw the birthday list at the bottom of the first page.  Other than Shultzie at 105, who would be our oldest flyer?  I don't stand a chance, only 60.

I think that the SilverFoxx, aka Lew Woolard, is around the 82 or 83 mark.  Not quite the 105 of Shultzie, but at least I can claim that I have seen Lew fly (and kick my butt).

In his 80tys Lew does a fine job of getting around. At the last contest he was running around and jumping up and down like a 10 year old after candy! Way to go Lew!

Ah. I was only thinking of our members............

AFAIK, John "D" is *probably* the oldest competitor at this time.  Before the tragic accident, Mr. Ed Southwick was a regular competitor and in his 80s.

I beleive that Lew is 85 going on to 86.  Then we have Bud Burroughs who is a year or two behind him.  Yes Marvin (aka bigiron) is the kid at 75.  I am the baby at 65.  DOC Holliday

Here is a picture of John D'Ottavio and me. John is 84 or 85 and still competing and judging. John still goes to the NATS to fly.

Lew Woolard is also the same age. They are more active than the Energizer bunny!

This guy, Ernie Magnuson, scratch builds and flys RC at our field...he's 93.  After seeing me fly C/L he sez he's gonna try it for old times.   Shown here with the Cub Cadet mower that he purchased and donated to our club.

You guy'y are way older than me so at 74 and 8 months I am starting to feel lot younger. Usually I am the oldest flyer on the field. Shultzie is younger than me but is starting to feel the pinch. Loss of precious hair. He definatly needs to wear a cap otherwise the rain makes too much noise when it splashes off his head. Well you know what they say about age. You gain a lot more respect. I hope you older gentelmen are around for many many years. Leo Mehl (alias the kid)

May the wind be at you back at 5 mph.

I'm right there with ya Randy, heck I go to a contest and its great, I am one of the youngest there!! I think most of the time, the only one younger than me is Todd Ryan. this hobby is great if for no other reason than I get to be a youngster again! Oh by the way, I am a young 47
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Lew Woolard was my racing pilot in 1975, he claimed 51 at the time, so, only 83 now.
