Old Veterans

I went to a swap meet today, near Kansas City. On older man was selling his old equipment. I noticed that he had a Fox.35 and a McCoy.35. He had very reasonable price on them so I bought them. He shoed me a new RC engine and ask me if I was interested. I told him no I only flew control line. He reached behind something and pulled out a K&B .35. I told him that I better pass on that one. I started to leave and he said here you take it. I was shocked and I managed to mumble Oh I couldn't do that. He said sure you can I want you to have it. I got the distinct feeling that he didn't want to see the engines seperated.

On the way home I got to thinking how those three engines pretty well symbolized the 1950's and 60's control linr flying.

It's hard to pass up a deal like you got on the Greenhead. I think your Fox is probably a 36 though. Possibly a 29. Probably has similar running characteristics as the Greenhead.

Glad you got something for your trip.  It was great seeing you and the misses.  By the way do you remember the old boys name?  I didn't get out to see much from the corner I was relegated to.  Sold one ten dollar item and bought two engines.  At least the weather man missed the mark and you two made it home okay.  DOC Holliday

Yep, those ol veterans along with Vecos, Johnsons, Forsters and many others too numerous to remember and mention were the ones that busted our fingers, frustrated us, and taugh us how to operate model engines...and even now, they will still fly a plane as well as one could want....even my old Phantom P.30 ......just like the one that I had back in the mid 50s....Regards, Phil

Great story Keith. I've got a Greenhead .29 on my RSM Ringmaster, but I've been looking for a .35 because that's what we flew mostly back in the 50's & early 60's. Awesome lineup.

Well, I basically still have all the old engines that I first got back in th eearly '60s.  Even my great running Fox 35 and Veco 35!  Now that I have the old engines that I couldn't get back then (about 8 Veco 35s alone and as many McCoy 40s!) I don't have anything to put them on! LOL!!

BUT, if I DO get anything built, I have the engines.

 Elwyn is correct Keith. That Fox is a 1974 .29 or .36. If it is a .29 it will be stamped on the mounting lug. I say 1974 because the top cylinder fins are filled in. Makes a really nice sport engine.

Thanks to those that correctly identified the Fox engine. I should have known better.  After the engines are cleaned up and bench tested they will once again be employeed if they are able.

I still have the first engine I ever bought used back in 1957 or 8. It is an O&R .23. It was great training for someone wanting to learn how to flip a prop.

If the Fox is anything like my .29, it will run a great 2 stroke.  Mine is on a Flite Streak.  The .36 would be faster and even more exciting.  Think of a Stunt 35 leaned all the way out and add some.
