The Stanzel "Sky Raider" didn't come out until 1955, from what I could uncover.

Bob, I was looking thru that kit yesterday. So I got it out again when I saw your post to see if there was a date on the plans. Nope. No date. None on the Lil' Raider plans either, sorry.

They made a beautifully engineered kits, for sure.

The initial Stanzel patent appears to be #2,558,109. It was filed on March 9, 1945, but not granted until 1948 (according to one source) or June 26, 1951 according to what is stamped on the patent itself.

If you put an authentic ignition engine on it and took your one-line maneuvering disadvantage points and, this is critical, you paint it like an old deBolt kit, you'd likely slide right thru the inspection...?

Dave

PS--I took my monoline trainer out to the field Sunday to see if I could get a first flight. Good think I talked to the speed guys: the controls were beautiful--but backwards. UPski was downski. Now I gotta rebuild the controls again, somehow.

PPS--Can you point to your source, Joe? I'm curious now. I suppose we could try calling the museum?

This is what I based my answer on.

Great biography of the Stanzels! Thanks, Joe!

The table says the Sky Raider was designed in May 1955. My Lil' Raider was done in August 1954. The Tuffy (I think a friend had a kit for sale last Sunday at the park) was June of 1950.

The Dave Day listing of "Vintage" (Old Time) stunt designs does not list any "Sky Raider".  The Dave Day listings ares one of the most comprehensive compilations for Old Time and Classic Stunt.  The Dave Day listing for Classic designs does show that the Stanzel kit was available in February, 1956.
