You OK guys make out alright down there? It shook us pretty good for nearly a minute all the way up here in KC. Some minor local damage. They are saying it's fracking there.

I'm fine just a lot rockin and rollin ,shook for almost two minutes! Sounds like very little damage if any around here.
-
Glad you are in good shape. Since this just doesn't happen here it was pretty startling. Hope this stuff doesn't wake up that fault line that changed the course of the Missouri River a few miles back in the 1800s. Can't imagine the aftermath if that happened again. As long as the flying circles haven't split in two we'll be down in a few weeks for the contest!

Oh, so that's what you really care about.
When I saw your original post I went Googling for it, and only found mention in an earthquake hunter's site. This consoled me: I figured that if hundreds or thousands had died then it'd hit the web pretty darned quick.

I must say I was amazed that it was around two hours before it was mentioned on the national news. If it would have been the east coast it would have been two minutes. 5.6 isn't huge but isn't a sneeze-especially where it never happens. First one I've experienced in my youthful 61 years. Our tornado sirens went off here. Then they couldn't tell where it was. First reports said damage in Wichita. Strange to watch your morning coffee splash over the side of your cup while just sitting on the table!

I was sitting in the car at Wal Mart and it felt just like the car was getting buffeted by a strong wind. A quick glance at the trees showed it dead calm and then it dawned on me that it must be a quake. The radio confirmed it almost immediately.

Good to hear that y'all are awright and that damage is minimal.
I remember well our last significant quake, and the 1964 Alaska Quake...felt that one here. Scary stuff! y1 Steve

I must have slept thru it.
-
Me too, Doc. Slept right through it. Must not have been a biggie over in my part of OK.

I felt it this morning still laying in bed before I got up and got ready for the drive to Dallas. My apartment building swayed, something I had never felt before and the entire apartment shook. It was definitely an interesting start to the day!

I lived thru the Northridge 6.7 earthquake in LA in 1994, that did some damage. It threw my tool chest four feet away to the floor. Never hang anything above the bed that can fall on you while you are sleeping and strap the bookshelves to the wall so they don't fall over.
The Sepuldeva basin flying circles were not damaged during that earthquake although we did loose some highway overpasses and a few buildings collasped
5.6 is a respectable earthquake

I am from California and am accustomed to quakes. This one got my attention. As it was happening I guessed it was a 5.0 or higher and I was right. The duration of it was longer than any I had experienced growing up and living on the west coast for 50 plus years. The shaking wasn't that strong, yet it wasn't mild either it just seemed to go on for a long time and that is what caused concern for me. Ordinarily earthquakes don't bother me, I am used of them but this one had me headed outdoors when it finally quit.

Meh. It was a 5.6. I grew up in LA and this would have just been a Tuesday morning. I was in Palmdale when the 7+ quake his Silmar. That was exciting. Shook a lot of freeway to the ground. Took us all day to get home.

I experienced the 1989 "Loma Prieta" quake in the SF bay area. My house suffered cracks, and broken stuff all over inside. My driveway was badly cracked, prompting replacement.
We moved to Oregon partly because "the really big one" was predicted for the SF area, and I didn't want to be there when it happened. 1989 was pretty small compared to what is expected.
