Hi All I have decided to do this , so , the OS 40 VF Piston Sleeve Run is on, I will start these soon, and I am taking orders for them, Please let me know what you would like
These are the same timing as the stock OS VF 40 , exception will be these will be much improved as the will be AAC, true chrome and lighter than stock

Hi Tom you have on order a 46VF ABC on order which I have now in stock, did you want to add a 40 VF AAC PS ?
Randy

I still want two.

What would it take to get one of these into an LA 46 case?
The VF is a rear exhaust engine. Nothing would line up with anything in the side exhaust LA case!
So I would guess the answer to your question would be a VF Case and crank etc.!

Randy I will take a set for the VF 40. And let me know how much I owe you for the 46 VF set and will put it on my card
Thanks Tom weedman

Randy,
Put me down for a set.
Thank you, Jerry

I do not know if that would be wise, you maybe would have to machine down the outside of the sleeve or the inside of the case, match up the port height, you will then have a smaller engine, you would need, or want to find a pin with pads on the end, a better solution would be to get a true ABC from Brian,
The OS LA sleeve is very thin, if I did this and did not get a sleeve piston set from Brian, I would use a 46 P/S set instead of a 40

How is that better than a stock 40VF? You would have to use a side/rear header and a bunch of machining to at best accomplish nothing better than a stock engine, with an irrelevant reduction in the weight. An it not run the same as a VF- not likely better, very likely worse.

What's a 40VF weigh?
It weighs about 12 ounces with the venturi and spraybar, the same weight it was in 1990. And 91. And 92. And 93. And 98. And 05. With the AAC it will be more like 10.5 or 11. This on an airplane that weighs *4 lbs*.

They're both loop scavenged, it doesn't matter where the exhaust comes out.
It matters a lot if the openings (ports) in the sleeve don't match up even close with the openings in the case.
If you don't believe me just buy one and try it! n~ n~

I once put a Rossi C21 piston and sleeve into a Fox 19 and called it the Rossafox. I put a K&B P/L in a Fox 35 and called it the Fox 4011. I have port matching skills. H^^
If the person making these is who I think it is I'd like to use it for something. Been combing the web a bit and can't find an OS VF 40.
In addition to the many currently rusting away in various sock drawers, and the one I sent to Phil Granderson that go lost in the mail:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/model-airplane-engines-O-S-MAX-40-VF-ABC-NEVER-used-in-box-with-papers/272933796120?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
I couldn't discourage you enough to not do it, but if you are going to put it in a different case, I would select a case for an otherwise useless engine like a 40FP, Fox 40 compact, etc.
BTW, the biggest issue is not getting the engine, it's finding acceptable propellors. I am down to my last Bolly 11.75-4.25, which is the one you want.

What’s wrong with using a APC 11.5x4?

Brett it will not be an issue much longer, We are making the moulds from 2 brand new Bollys now, so I will have them in stock first of the year or late DEC

Outstanding, this will make it a turn-key operation again.

Nothing, per se - I qualified at the 1994 Nationals using the original APC 11.5-4 narrow blade version. However, the canonical system is Paul Walker's and you can try any of the others using the same prop, including going all the way back to the 1st-generation high-rev systems.

I have done tons of this, its a lot of fun, and many times you make a better motor, but I do not think so when the 46 LA is the subject, Putting things like ST 60 piston sleeves in a COMO 40, and homemade 56 parts into a ST 35 case all made for Great stunt engines, I have a ST 60 that is a 75, a OS 35S that is a 46, a OS FSR 40 that is now a 56, , and a shiney case FOX 36 that has a ST 46 piston sleeve in it. But if you insist on trying the LA 46, I would go for a VF 46 P/S setup, as they are BOTH the same outside diameter. But haven't checked, but I think even the Vf 46 would make the LA a smaller bore, and smaller motor

Randy,
Please put me down for one set.
I've been sitting on the (Electric) Fence with a 40VF sitting on the shelf.
Happy to hear about plans for pistons, props, pipes and planes in the works.
Thanks,
Damian

Hi Brett best thing is not only will make turn key for VF40, but the prop will also work very well on most all 40 pipe engines, 46 LA 40 LA ST 51 OS VF 46 , PA 51 61 and many other engines

Hi All
The Run has started, it will take a while and I will let you know when they are ready to ship, These of course will be the Lighter and much tougher AAC versions just as the PA engines are .
