Oh those FOXES! Got a nib Fox 35 stunt and the bones of an unfinished Ringmaster. Ringster is ready for color and I just Put the Fox on the test stand at lunch. 3rd flip and off she went, adjusted the nva and got a perfect 4-2-4. Ran two 4oz tanks and I think she is ready to go! how did they make those motors to run so good out of the box is great! Now to paint.---LOUIE H^^ H^^

From what I have been told you have to run about 1 gallon of fuel thru a Fox before it is broken in.
You can run about 2 tanks of fuel thru a OS 40 and it is ready to mount and fly. Not broken in, but flyable.
That Fox might burp and sputter for most of the flying season depending on how often you fly. HB~>

as Paul says - you will need a LOT more running in on a Fox than that.......high castor content too........typically a fox is run in just before it wears out S?P

The new Fox .35's have the piston and cylinder fit set up looser than the old ones. This makes the break in quicker. I got this information from Charley Thacker at the Fox factory.
If your Fox does burp, set it a little leaner, and it won't burp as badly. It can burp, but if it doesn't quit, it won't hurt anything.
Too many people compare the Fox .35 to the newer Schneurle ported pipe engines. The Fox is like a flathead ford engine. The newer Schneurle motors are like the engines out of the current Indy race cars. It's like comparing apples to oranges.
If you are a sport flier, use a Fox; they are cheap and they work.
Most controline fliers are sport fliers.

I have the 60th aniversary version with hemi head and stuffer backplate. Two quarts in it so far and it allready runs great. And I love the smell of the burt fuel. takes me back 35 years... n~ n~
The os .25LA i have doesn'nt smell half as good! ;D ;D

What De Hill said. I have run them on the bench until they will hold a rich 2 stroke setting, and then mounted them in a Ringmaster running on the rich side, and finished the break in doing lazy 8's. They will break back and forth between the 2 and 4 doing 8's. For some reason I have not had much trouble with the burp on a Ringmaster. Something about the deep short front end I think, that keeps things from resonating. Same thing on my Sterling Mustang as long as I don't get it to rich. Like De said, if it burps, lean it out a bit. Also, run the center line of the tank about a 1/4" above the center of the venture with a uniflow tank. If running non uniflow, you can run the tank a little lower.

Aah! The smell. When I fly at the R/C field, the old R/C flyers get drawn over to the control line circle from the smell of my old Foxes and McCoys sometimes. You know which ones use to fly C/L, as they are the ones that are drawn like fly's to honey. My grandkids even love the smell when I fly.

I must admit I love to fly my Bi-Slob with the old Fox blubbering and spitting out caster. Was a messy plane to fly but I too love the smell.

Nothing like that castor smell, its so pleasant in a weird sorta way!

My wife has a totally different idea of what Castor residue and fuel smell like on me after a good flying session.

I have seen Fox's come out of the box and only need a tank or two to go airborn. Then I have seen some that took all summer of flying every week end and still not broke in. Just remember to not go too lean with that needle valve. H^^
