Official Notice: Shultzie is a slacker
« on: December 19, 2007, 06:23:53 PM »
Dateline Gig Harbor: In a recent report, Chris McMillan reported that Don Schultz, fabulous builder, finisher and flier, had done nothing: zip, zero, nada in the way of construction on a plane to fly in the 2008 season. Onlookers were aghast. Can it be? It was said the the infamous modeler from Western Washington is too busy flying stunt kites to put in the effort necessary to uphold his sterling reputation as Mr. 20 Points. Several top level fliers were saddened to hear of this fall from grace. One famous Nationals Level Flier was overheard saying, "it's a shame really, the kid had so much potential. He coulda been a contender".

Calls to Mr. Schultz's publicity agent were not immediately returned.

This just in: Schultz denies culpability claiming that the pressure of his numerous obligations have forced him into retirement, his dreams unrealized.

Yes, regretably the rumors verbalized here have made their way east of the cascade curtain, surely they cant be true. Why if the Shultz master would merely use the time that he invests on here spreading his own special brand of fire breathin disruption, he would have had time to build a reputation saving model. With a last name like that, surely he is a candidate for a simple to build, German aircraft,, I will donate a set of plans should anyone be able to shame, cajole or otherwise convince the otherwise reputation stained individual to redeem himself!

And we know he can operate under pressure and has the ability to multitask after hearing the story of playing in a Band and Miss Hot Pants chasing after Mr. Shultzie. I think he would be a good canidate for the German flying machine and he could always rename it "The Fish Face Machine". Actually he probably learned the Fish Face thing from Miss Hot Pants. Come on Mr. S there must be a spare spot in the garage for a little balsa dust and CA. How about adding a little excitement to your life by rotating in one spot until you get dizzy. Best do it without the suds. It'll be just like old times....... LL~ LL~ LL~........Shultize's been having more fun than a barrel of monkeys ever since he found this Stunt Hanger. Now's the time to make a change for the better so you can take your act on the road and smash and crash with the rest of us.  Z@@ZZZ time to wake up and spin and grin in one spot.  LL~ LL~ LL~  Try it you'll like it !!!

Chris,

Naw, I think he's continuing to sandbag. He posts these pictures of gorgeous ships he built, but where is the new blood? Where is the spectacular detail on a new plane? Us plebian neophytes want to see how it's done!   BW@

Naw don't listen to this garbage. We all know what you are capable of and I don't think you have to prove anything altho it would be nice to fly with you again. Some of us think that you are really into ARF kites and after you retired you sit around and drink beer and fly kites. Let me tell you this will all catch up to you and you will start putting on pound and pounds and won't be able to walk in the sand to fly kits and without your grandchildren there to help you out this could be fatal. I can see the headlines now. Don Shultz passed away trying to get out of the sand but it was too much. Then I will have to say a few words LL~ over your grave and wonder why you took no ones advice, especially about the Raineer Beer. Woe Is Me! LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ HB~>

Leo,

In his embarrassment, I think Shultzie is dodging us. He can't face the shame of sitting on his backside and not building a new and spectacular creation to WoW the masses.

This is shameful,

Our friend Scmultz is negecting his duties, while spending his time on the forums with a tin of beer in his hand!

There is more in the world than ARF Kites.

I suggest that Don shape up or the Mountain Mafia will on his case!

He obviously is ignoring this thread, so he will have to be attacked on other threads!

Don, the message is for you to BUILD A NEW AIRPLANE!!!!!

Seriously gang....
The other day I was blessed enough to be invited back to the windtunnel by the Director of the Boeing Wind Tunnel facility for their annual Christmas Pot-Luck dinner.

When I arrived at the Gate B-18 Mike was there waiting for not only me...but a host of old demented retired windtunnel "Rats!"
In these daze days....we had to wear special coded badges with inserts that actually show exactly when, and exactly the location we roam too, while on campus. The guards lined all of us up like a bunch of ducks...as we drove our vehicles to desinated parking stalls...and then were escorted through LOCKED MAXIUM SECURITY DOORS and into the main wind tunnel building.
It was awesome to see so many of my beloved old mentors, model design engineers, both present and retired. (Funny thing too...all my old directors, managers ALSO HAD TO BE ESCORTED INTO THAT LINE OF CARS AT THE B-18 GATE...AND ALSO HAD TO LINE UP LIKE LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER HOUSE...to enter the inner sanktumsss' bowels of the wind tunnel.
(however..Randy...Leo...I was unable to "borrow" more rolls of that great low tack green masking tape that I MADE A HABIT of accidently leaving in my coat pockets when I retired that last day at the wind tunnel in 2004! SORRY I WASN'T ALLOWED ACESS TO THE STORAGE LOCKER THAT CONTAINS SUCH PRIZED ELEMENTS FOR THOSE FINAL MASKING JOBS...

again...THANKS for the razzz job...I would have answered sooner but I missed this heading post until last night!
MAY EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS AND WISHING EVERYONE AND THOSE YOU LOVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAZE SEASON!

My Dear Brother in balsa and dementia, it is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that you build one of your designs, or at least a Sting Ray, and hit some Classic contests in '08.  Positively the best way to get back in.  Lower key fun for all!  Perfect to get back into things!

Anyway, I would not want the Redneck Mountain Mafia to have to get involved!

I for one do NOT believe Schultzie is Slacking.  I think he is sandbaggin, that is, he is SECRETLY replenishing the fleet of gorgeous 'Rays & Chips, putting on and polishing a few more coats of clear,  8) then heading off to the super secret practice site for a few dozen more practice flights  I tell ya, one day he's just gonna show and kick some serious PA bootie!  :X

You know as we have seen in other posts, Schultzie ain't just another purdy face!  VD~

Well, that much is certain.   LL~

And no Stingrays from Shultzie. Nothing less than a new Avenger will do. OK, OK. Maybe a Stingray first for Classic competition.

Yes, on further consideration, Donny needs to come up with both an Avenger AND a Stingray. There's just no two ways about it. The boy needs to produce. We need to pull him out of his self enforced exile by his hair, uh, shirt.

It's a shame that the classic cut off date is 12/31/1969. I'd build one if it was classic legal. Darn...

But Donne, you can still build a Stingray for classic.   #^

Yes...what a great n' beautiful stunter...designed by the best of the best....and what an elegant model in the air...(landings were often quite exciting to say the least.) IF YOU DIDN'T LAND IT HOT...Bob designed the Sting Rays landing gears....to have a noticably small FOOT PRINT on the moment of contact with the ground.

Those long inward swept main landing gears worked to perfection with that rearward slanting nose wheel all worked together to make the cleanest wobble-free contact with the ground ....HOWEVER IT LOVED TO AND HAD TO BE ALWAYS LANDED HOT WITH LOTS OF AIRSPEED.
When you touched down with good airspeed...IT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE to know exactly the moment of contact to the tarmac...
which natually would make for max landing points...Those inward slanted gears really absorbed the shock beautifully and talk about beautiful ground contact with NO BOBBLE OR BOUNCE....OOOPS!
LOOOK OUT!
If you screwed up and missed the wind and try to flair and try to whip that dead stick model around for another go  and found yourself out  of air speed.
THEN YOU WERE IN DEEP POOO-POOOOOO.
Touch that Sting Ray down at too slow a speed and you were asking for that funny HIPPITY HOP off one main slanted gear...that would spring that wing tip up and back down on the other wing...and BONGITY BONKITY back again to the other side. BINGITY-BONKITY BACK N' FORTH.

I think our beloved stunt judge... Bob Parker counted one of my touch downs...and totaled  me about 6 landings on that one landing.
How  alarmingly and weirdly funny to watch that  Sting Ray spring gear do that funny little dance-- I SAY AGAIN....
SO THE MORAL OF THAT TRIKE GEAR DESIGN (WITH THE NARROW FOOTPRINT) WAS TO SIMPLY KEEP THE AIRSPEED UP..AND SET IT DOWN HOT-HOT-HOT!
The rest of the flight with a Sting Ray was  truly soooo smooth and predictable..UNLESS YOU REALLY OVER HAMMERED THAT BACK BOTTOM CORNER OF THE HOURGLASS...
On my first Sting Ray....I think I might have had a problem with air pocket blanketing from that wing. Which would block some the airflow to the elevators???  I am NO AERODYNAMISTICAL' ENGINEER LIKE GARY LETSINGER? However in most situations..this was never a problem...except in really high wind conditions?

see poorly drawn cartoon of the landing gear layout.

Don,

If you in fact designed it in the fall of 1969 and started building it in November of 1969, then it is classic legal.

So, have you got the plans copied yet? I want the first set. ;D

Randy,
After looking at the faded plans I thought me saw a correct date for classic, you have to look real close in the right spot.......Hey also I gotta  tell ya, we have to come up with a different title for Mr. S.......I just can't refer to Mr. Shultzie as "Slacker" anymore, not after seeing all the work that went into the "AVENGER 35" way cool Mr. Shultzie and I want a set of plans too. I don't care what you call him, but Slacker needs to be put to rest....maybe just plain lazy or crazy or burned out or don't give a hoot or just to busy posting or whatever. Sorry, I'm weak, I have to go back to calling him Mr. Shultzie even if I don't get a set of plans. Mr. Shultzie has brought me more entertainment than I ever thought I could handle. Mr. Shultzie I even have a PA Ultra lite 40 I just betcha I could make fit...........Well maybe I'll change my mind tomorrow. In the meantime Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year before I change my mind. Grins

Don,

Maybe my understanding of the rules is flawed, but I thought that if a plane was designed before 12/31/1969, then it was legal for classic. It seems you even started building the plane before the cut off. No?

Greg,

Well, Shultzie didn't used to be a slacker. He used to be awesome but has clearly faded over time.   LL~

edit

From Keith T. in the Classic area:

The PAMPA rules for the Classic event state:

"The purpose of the event is to encourage the construction and flying of control line stunt models designed, published or kitted prior to the year 1970."

That says that if the thing was designed prior to December 1969, it is classic legal.  The rules do not say anything about any requirement to have been constructed prior to that cutoff date.  You might want to make up a letter or some sort of "official looking document" attesting to the information you posted above about designing that in the Fall of 1969 just to show any contest officials that might question when you designed that airplane.  This Avenger thing is a really great looking airplane and it will really be neat to see this in the Classic event.
[/b]

Seems like the thing is legal. So get those plans ready for shipment.   HH%%
