I watched the (previous) best QB of all time at his very best, but Joe wasn't as good as Brady. Peak, maybe, but Brady has been going at this level for 3x as long.

The Atlanta offense played the first half of the game, but not the second! There was a graphic flashed up after the second half was under way that the Atlanta offense had not been on the field for over and hour! Their defense played a great game initial;ly but just got worn down. If Atlanta puts together two good drives in the third quarter and one in the fourth, and not even score any points, they win the game.

I would dispute that analysis a bit. What I think happened is that Brady/Belichick finally found the way around it. Thats what the great ones have done. I saw Montana/Walsh do the same thing over and over, you might be able to fool them for 3 quarters, but they usually found the weak spots and then this sort of thing happened. Most of the time (just like the recent Patriots) they knew from the first play, but every once in a while somebody managed to stave it off for most of the game. That's why all the comebacks, and why one week it will be centered on Edelman, then tonight, it was the relatively obscure James White. Same thing every week with the 80's-90's 49ers, one week it would be Rice, the next Taylor, the next Brent Jones, next week, Tom Rathman.  There's always a hole somewhere, that's the concept behind the Bill Walsh/west coast offense going back to the Stanford days, you just have to find it and be able to execute.

I would note that the Pats defense tightened up, too, the way it was going for most of the game, there couldn't have been a comeback, because no matter what Brady and Co did, they only have the ball for half the time.

I played football from the time I was in the 4th grade until I was 26 years old.  The two things that will get you beat quicker than anything in a game are turnovers and penalties.  When you blow a 25 point lead, you have problems.

2nd half looked like Falcon's new strategy was to wear down the Patriot's offense by keeping them on the field as much as possible!

I kinda wanted both teams to win, but in the end, the fans won. Few SB's can even be considered decent games...maybe 5%. This one was strange, but at least it was a nail biter.   y1 Steve

The Patriots win is "illegitimate". The Falcons won the popular vote.

Well, I had to go pick up granddaughter at her work place.  The score was 28-12 when I left the house.  When I finally got back the game was over and the wife was not happy.  Thanks to cable I was able to roll back the game to when I left.  When they tied the game I said it can't be, but they go into over time.  They win the coin toss and the team went into a do or die game.   I really didn't think the team and Brady could do it.   Just look at how many Super Bowl records were broken this year.  To me another good Super Bowl.

If a writer were to write a novel with the plot line of this Super Bowl, no publisher would print it because it would be too crazy and unbelievable.

Shows what good coaching, good teamwork, making a few unbelievable plays, making fewer mistakes, and being able to take advantage of the mistakes of the other team can do.

One play could have easily made the difference. If the Falcons had simply run the ball up the
middle on 2nd and 11 at NE's 25, late in the 4th, two times in a row and then kicked a FG they
would have been up 10 points with less than 3 minutes to play. NE probably would have used
their timeouts and it would have been a much tougher task to get two scores than just one.
It's just unbelievable how often the OCs outsmart themselves with bad play calls. The Cowboys
made a huge mistake against the Packers by clocking the ball with 40 seconds left. They then
kicked a FG with 35 seconds left and we all know what happened after that. Bad play calling!

your right but it is even worse that that, Atlanta was on the 25 yards line with time winging down, Atlanta's Off coordinator made 2 horrendous calls, 2 pass plays in a row, first one was a sack, loss of about 12 yards, then another  right after that had holding penalty, took them totally out of field goal range, which would have sealed the game, and  did NOT run much time off the 3 min clock
It was imperative to do 2 things, run time off and  get the  3 points, with the  horrible play calling at that point in the game, they used little time, if they had ran 3 straight  then kicked the  field goal, they would have had run much more time off the clock, and a  very high percentage the 3 pointer would have been added.
I could not  be;live it when i saw it, my first thing i said  was ...they are letting the PATs  back in the game
dumb..    but  a great game otherwise,  Brady  and the PATs   are  a  Great Team,  you never give them any chance like that

I think time of possession was 64% to 36%, favoring the Patriots. If Atlanta could have had possession for just 5 minutes more, and not scored any points after they got to the 28 to 3 lead, they win the game. Their defense was on the field just too much and got gassed, and the offense couldn't keep possession in the second have, for numerous reasons. I give the Patriots credit for not quitting and doing what they do best, but Atlanta just couldn't get their offense back into the game in the second half, and that opened the door for New England.

Rumor has it that Russia was able to hack into Kyle Shanahan's brain, causing those ridiculous play calls that ultimately cost the Falcons the game.  1st and ten on the 22 with the chance to kick a field goal and put the game away and you decide to start passing?  Idiot.  Run the ball three times, eat up some clock, kick your field goal and start preparing your acceptance speech for the Lombardi trophy.

Don't worry SF fans, Shanahan will be like a breath of fresh air to wash the Chip Kelly experience out of your memory banks.  We had him here in Philly for waaay too long, talk about idiots.

Hey, the new stadium is about 5 miles from *my house*. I can hear the foghorn go off when the 9ers score. Fortunately, that hasn't proven to be much of a problem so far.

The 49ers problems go a lot further than the head coach. Vince Lombardi or Bill Walsh wouldn't have done much better. The owner fired Jim Harbaugh at the urging of GM Trent Baalke, Baalke is, mercifully, gone, but Jed York is still here. A whole bunch of guys retired (in their mid-20's) and otherwise moved on as soon as Harbaugh left, knowing what is coming. At this point they have one or two good players and otherwise the team is in full "tank" mode, which guys who wouldn't make the practice squad anywhere else.  They are a good 3-4 years from respectability (based on the model of the Raiders, who were in the same boat 4 years ago, and are now one of the best teams in the AFC - when Derek Carr doesn't break his leg).

San Fran  fans  have to be  so disappointed  at the state of the team, and I know  the frustration going on there, from looking at the  glory days, vs  now  it is a  sad  comparison ,  next thing they need is to trade their  QB.
Joe Montana is still up there  as  the best I have ever seen play the  game, he played in  physical years  when you could hit the  QB, he was the best I have ever seen about making  whatever he wanted  happen, He was also  one of the smartest  QB to play  , I would have loved to see  how many rings he had if Joe had not got hurt so bad,
Brady is a marvelous QB, and his talent is undisputed,  him  Ryan  and  that  Green Bay  guy  :-)  are  the best 3 in the league right now, Rogers  has  extreme talent Too , I would have to put my money on  either Ryan or him  seeing Brady in next years   SB.
