I have written a few threads on my current electric project it has been a long time in the works. I have more invested in this project than I have in any other plane as I started from scratch and I have made some mistakes along the way. Hopefully this learning curve will be a short one.
Because of the brick that I have to carry int the nose I have learned some new to me finishing techniques. The put it on and sand it off line has never been done for me as much as I have on this plane. I was really concerned about the weight of the finish and didn't put much on. Thus far the color cost has been 1 OZ. Its grey but its covered. Just add trim and clear. Aside from the fact I have put it on and sanded it off at least a dozen times there are still some clean up areas. This is where the obsession comes in. I know in my heart this will not be a finish like I have had in the past but because I am finishing with the fuel on board I have to draw the line. So far total weight is 1642 grams or 57.9 oz add the 1 oz wing tip weight and we right at 59 OZ. This is with no trim or clear.
I am striving like never before to hit this target weight. If it still seems nose heavy after the clear I will change spinners to the tower plastic one instead of the 90.00 true-turn. What a deal that spinner was. Now that's a laugh. I see no Urethane paint in this planes future so the shine will come from grease. That's Elbow grease. LOL
