Nylon washers or spacers
« on: February 26, 2016, 01:40:29 PM »
Guys I am having a heck of a time trying to find some nylon spacers/washers.  What I need is something with an 1/8" hole in the center and they need to be 1/8" thick and the diameter can be anywhere from 1/4" to 1/2" across.  I have tried McMaster Carr and Grainger and some other places and have come up dry.  Anybody got a source for these?

Thank you
Mike

Mike, try Home Depot or another of the big box hardware/building supply houses.

I got some like that from -- of all places -- my local hardware store.  In amongst the bins and bins of all sorts of different fasteners there was bin full of nylon washers.

RTL has thin nylon washers, if that's good enough: http://www.rtlfasteners.com/RC/739.html.

McMaster has them, under "spacers", if you can stand a 0.14" hole: http://www.mcmaster.com/#unthreaded-spacers/=11aopk7.  I suspect they're sized for a #6 screw -- if you're putting a #4 screw through them then they have that, too: http://www.mcmaster.com/#unthreaded-spacers/=11aoq4r.

If you need an exact 1/8" hole, then maybe try to start with the #4 or #2 spacer and drill it out -- I can see all sorts of fun getting that to work.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Mike,
I just checked McMaster-Carr and found lots of nylon washers.

Try this link:

When you get there click on "Non-Metallic flat washers".

Digikey. 16c each. Shipping will be about $7.50 though.

If you get them 1st-class mail it may well be less -- I've gotten stuff with shipping as little as $3.95.  Shipping will still be the bulk of the cost.

McMaster-Carr has what they call "nylon unthreaded spacers". They don't have .125" ID, but they do have .115" and .140" ID. They are in a different section of the catalog than the washers. Maybe you missed them, or maybe you need actual .125" ID.

Ace is the place!  Or at least it was.  My local Ace Hardware went TU a couple of year's ago.  If you have one locally, they have (had) a good selection.
