Back from KOI......Had a great time......Many thanks to the X47 bunch for putting on a great contest again. I flew Sunday in intermediate. The wind was a killer for me at my skill level but for my first time competing in intermediate I didn't do so bad (4th), considering I have not yet learned to remember that the wind direction sometimes changes during your routine (duh). All in all, geat time, great company, and at least I got my feet wet. Thanks guys.

:( Sorry about the plane Phil, nice recovery you needed about 8 to 10 inches of ground clearance and you would have pulled thru. It was a lot of fun H^^ My hats off to the X47 guys ,lots of hard work. I got to work on remembering the pattern HB~> Practice Practice Practice ! Hope the weather is warmer next year #^ Sure was tough to get up at 1:30 this morning after getting home at 10:00 pm Z@@ZZZ

The only thing that I can say right now about KOI is damn the weather! Woke up sick from the cold & windy weather. But, we had a blast & I would do it all over again (except this time I would bring ear muffs with me).

Dee,
Welcome aboard! Good flyer's and Photographers are always welcome! Unfortunately, the weather you experienced (from what I've heard) was good weather for that area, and that contest, at that time frame! Last year it was moved forward into more gentle weather, but somehow got moved back to January again. When this contest started, It was run out of the Miami area, (I believe) the idea being to invite the "northerners" to our balmy weather. Recently in north Fla. it just hasn't worked that way.

Any kind of weather this time of year is chancy at best. I was accused of taking cold temps to Stuart the year I visited my daughter and her family. I have even worn a winter coat in Tuscon with grandaughter sitting in the truck to stay warm. Been to SIG contest in June wearing a heavy jacket and wishing for more, oops that is summer time. I can remember wishing to be able to go to the KOI when it was down around Miami. My brother kept telling me it was too far. Little did he realize what we drive now to get to a good contest. Anyway maybe I can make it to the KOI. DOC Holliday

I remember going last year in March and it was much nicer weather. I know how FL weather can be. I was born & raised in West Palm Beach and can remember sometimes it would be raining on one side of the street and on the other side it would be sunny & beautiful. FL weather is strange like that. January probably isn't a good time anywhere as far as weather is concerned.
I still wouldn't have missed it though!

so, wheres the pictures?
-
I am working on them now. (editing, cropping, re-sizing, etc) and will try to post them tonight or tomorrow. Good things are worth waiting for aren't they?

I went to at least 20-25 KOI at Jacksonville and 70% of the time the weather was very cold and snow a few times. There was a couple of times it was in the 80 degrees. I lived in Florida for 30 years and tried to get it changed to Orlando for years but got no where. We even had a place lined up in the 1990's just east of Orlando.

Hey Ed,
Missed you at KOI, I've been used to you being there over the years. You missed another good one. Hope to see ya there next year.

I took a few really nice pictures on Sunday, only to drop and totally destroy my Nikon L-3 on the floor inside the building. '' I haven't tried to salvage anything off the card.
That was kind of how my whole weekend went.

Thank you!

I just got back to Utah from my visit to Florida. I had a great time, but it was a shock to step out into the cold weather. I posted these snapshots on the SSW forum, but for those who may not frequent that board, I've re-posted them here.
Since the delightful Dee has posted the results with her excellent photos, I'll call these "pics from an ugly old phart." They run from Friday practise sessions, through Sunday.

Looks like Owen pulled out a little low inverted or had one of those dreaded flame outs. Must be taking lessons from Dennis Vander kurr....
John
PS. A little putty, wood, glue and paint and he will be back in business.
-
John,
That sure is a really BEAUTIFUL Blue Nobler that you took a picture of. Looks as though even the cockpit has a female pilot. <evil grin> I guess it is true; Chicks Fly Too!
-
8) Thanks Dee and John! As you can see in the pictures there was a strong ALABAMA entry (5),walked away with 8 Plaques !!
-
Are we bragging now? Oh, Let me Brag then...
Last year at KOI; Bob & I won so much they said we should have entered the lotto while we were there.
2 of us from GA took home 3 plaques and 2 plane kits from the raffle. >:D n~
-
It is okay to brag as long as you don't get big headed. I can say John posted some great pictures also and I bet his wife thinks he is the handsomest guy in the world.
-
I'm not bragging so to speak considering last year i totalled my first plane and then placed 3rd. Bob is the one who is always doing the winning or we wouldnt bring home any plaques. :-)
We just go to have fun & see our long lost friends that we only get to see once or twice a year if we are lucky.
-
8) Nope not braggin' Just a challenge to other clubs to get more people started to fly C/L and come as a group . Just a friendly Joust between Friends ,it makes it more fun and everyone has a good time and brings us closer together .
-
Well it started out in the beginning of 2006 that Bob was the only one in Macon, GA flying and then he started teaching me and now we have grown our CL bunch to around 8 flyer's & still growing. Only one downside to having new people joining is that I will have more competition in the Basic Event since I still cant loop well & it seems all the guys (since i am the only girl) don't have problems with looping at all. Oh well, just means that i have to either try harder (which i don't know how i can try any harder than i already am) or just give up flying and stay with taking the pictures.
Either way I will still have a blast. But there is nothing more satisfying for me personally than to have a woman win out over a man! <evil grin>
-
8) Just keep your lines dry.....Dee you'll get the hang of it ,keep positive ! I love the smell of Castor in the morning !
-
I love that smell too. I have been told I am probably the only girl who does. <evil grin>
Hard to keep my lines dry when it is raining while you are competing.
