Carrier in Dallas
« on: October 24, 2011, 04:29:56 AM »
Tom Martin and I made a little trip to Dallas this weekend for the Carrier contest. Great group of guys showed up with lots of airplanes, wonderful stories and freely sharing information. This is a really fun event that you might like to look into if you want to try something new. It isn't that difficult to put something together with a throttle and tail hook, the deck can be a couple pieces of PVC pipe laid out on a grass circle with anti freeze jugs for weights and you are ready to go.. Richard Oliver even tried his hand with an airplane Bill Bischoff brought.

Everyone was having a good time, I had a ball and left with allot of good info.

Billy Bischoff built "The Mule", an OS32 (I think) powered profile Hellcat that is rugged, good looking, simple, reliable, stable and free for the asking for anyone to fly. Dave Russum flew a flawless first flight (say that twenty times really fast)  takeoff, High speed, signal, Low speed, signal and 100 point landing with it. Blind-folded. Well, maybe that's a stretch.

Having a plane like this is just perfect when the opportunity occurs to let somone get a hands-on experience with carrier flying.

Thanks to Phil Dunlap and Dave Ek and all the volunteers for making a wonderful outing.

Bob, thanks for the great pictures and information on the contest. Things look pretty good at the flying area, doesn't look like any of the planes had to be tied down between flights. That is a great group of carrier fliers in that area and can be relied on to share their knowledge and planes at a contest.
