Now flying the real ones!
« on: August 30, 2016, 06:15:18 PM »
Many of you in New Jersey and surrounding areas know my son Ryan who is a quite successful advanced flyer.  On Monday Ryan passed his final FAA test and earned his private pilot's licence on the first attempt.  He was 17 in March and took his first lesson just after turning 16.  He trained at Princeton Flying School in the Cessna 172.

That's great, what's he going to do with it? Is this part of a career path?

That's great, Ed. Congratulations to you both. I soloed on my 16th, December 14, 1974 and I still remember it as a big deal.
Chris...
P.S. Be careful, he could turn out like this guy.

That's an accomplishment, for sure!  When I started my flying lessons in 1963, it was extremely hard.  After an hour with my instructor, I would get a terrible headache from concentrating and trying so hard.

Thanks all for you very nice comments.
In response to Motorman we've been advised against majoring in pilot training at the college level.  In the event of an injury or illness which disallows flying, Ryan would have no fallback career.  At this point he's thinking about computer science and eventually becoming a flight instructor on a part time basis but, things change.

All we need with that photo is the sound track from "Airplane!"

Congratulations to Ryan. I did mine 40 years ago this summer. It was one of the best times of my life. I am still flying and work as a freelance instructor. The dream never ends if you don't let it.

Wishing him calm winds, clear skies and happy landings.
