ATT has notified me they are shutting down Worldnet as of March 31. What does this mean? The Master C/L link site will go down as of this date. Download the information you need now in case I am unable to transfer it to a new server.

I am a huge fan of Phil's Master List of CL Links. If you only have one link in your "favorites", this is THE one to have! It is the top of the list of links on the links page on the NW Skyraiders website, of which I am the web'ster.
http://www.nwskyraiders.com/index.html (http://www.nwskyraiders.com/index.html)
I went to Phil's site and opened and saved each of the first 5 pages. They work, tho I have doubts about the pictures. After opening a page, I clicked "page" on the tool bar, then "save as", and directed them to a folder on my PC. It's that simple. The 5 pages are only 900kb...not a big deal. Phil should have the whole enchilada in a folder on his computer (?), so it should be a safe & sane transfer. At least, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be, but I'd probably have it on my PC and on a disc.
Thanks, Phil, for your wonderful site! H^^ Steve

I wasn't sure how to save 'em so I just highlighted the pages and copied and pasted them into an email to myself.
-
I just printed out a couple of lists and got to thinking(yes it is dangerous) that his titles of links is no good without the link address. So the list it self is useless as far as I can see. Of course I guess I could Google the title, may try that. Hate to see the site go as I like Garf's adventures with his different planes and engines.
Update, I now have all the engine pics in my documents file. Thank you Garf for the pictures.

The forum is on a different server than the link site. The link site is the one going down, not the forum.

Actually, Doc, IF you're copying the whole page in html code (per my suggestion), the url's are there, hidden. They work! If you click on "page" in the toolbar and then click "view source", that's all the html code, and what you are actually copying.
I also tried doing what Elwyn did, and it worked also, but the "list" became messy and difficult to use, all jammed together. His email system might have given a different result than mine, I suppose, but the links did work. If you just print out the page (which I think you did), then you got nothin' but names. :'( Steve

Danged if I will fully understand how all of this stuff works. Must be enough difference between some versions of windows or email systems for some operations to end up with different results on different machines. I got lucky and the pages I copied and pasted came up looking the same in the emails right down to the animated Spitfire and what few links I clicked on worked OK. I'm using Windows 2000 professional and some version of Outlook Express downloaded in 2007.
-
Elwyn, I think the major difference is in the email systems. My box apparently has Outlook turned off, tho it didn't always, and I don't know what happened to it. But if you click on "page" and then "view source", you'll be shocked at what sort of gibberish makes this stuff work. I don't feel that I know html code very well, but I do keep up our website in code. WordPad is the program I use to edit the existing pages or create new pages (who'da thunk?). But if you click on "Page" and scroll down the dropdown menu, "Edit with WordPad" is one of the options. I can't say that this knowledge has done me any good, but I can't find a club member willing to take over the website...HB~> Steve

You've got a much better grasp of computers than I. I know just enough to be dangerous. ;D
-
Oh, I'm vewy dangewus! I have a computer guru buddy that helps me keep the old box running, but I don't think he knows squat about html. Probably a really good way to keep it, or he just keeps it a sekrit? n~ Steve

It still holds true, "Learn something everyday for a long life". I just went to Garf's site and pulled up the pages with the links. Did a right click(on the mouse) and a menu came up. Nothing listed to add to documents, but a title "favorites" was there. Clicked on it for each page. Chaecked out my favorites and the lists are there and as Garf says, "Click on link" and it works. I guess the day I stop learning something new, they can throw the dirt over my ashes or scatter them over some flying site. Thanks to all for this computor illiterate.
-
Doc...If I correctly understand what you did, all it accomplishes is to put a link to that page of Phil's site in your Favorites. If Phil's site was to go away, your link won't work. If you want to copy his pages, read my 1st post and do what I did. It's vewy easy! If you normally don't use "favorites", you need to start! It's easy! Can you use "copy" and "paste"? If not, start! You might want to avoid "cut" for awhile, tho.
This is not to say that there aren't other ways to kill the snake! One thing about computers that drives us crazy is that MS has made at least two ways to do any simple task. Ask somebody how to do that simple task, they'll tell you the way they know. Ask another person, you'll probably get a different answer. You'll naturally think that one or the other doesn't know what they're talking about! The way Elwyn suggested might work for you, and you'll be able to leave it on your email provider's computer. I have so much stuff stored at Yahoo! that I'm afraid I might be getting close to my storage limit. The disadvantage is that to use the result will be that you'll have to have your email system open to use it. I'd rather not have to do that. There is also a good argument against having a folder on my desktop to store Phil's link pages...I'll probably stick it into "My Documents", where I have lots of folders for all sorts of oddball stuff. n~ Steve
-
I have put the entire site on a flash drive. That way I can put it anywhere I like or take it with me.
-
I put copies in a My Documents folder and also burned a copy on to a CD.
-
Steve, the pages with the links are in my favorites part of the computor. The pages with all the engines are in my documents section.
-
I bought some webspace and have the site back up, but I have no way of editing it. I need a web editing program that is idiot proof. Does anyone know of any?
-
I went to Phils page and then took my digital camera and took a picture of my computer screen. I printed out a copy of the picture and taped to my keyboard.

I don't think that's going to help much. I found the successor to Netscape Composer. SeaMonkey. Works good.
I have the link site functioning in a very basic fashion. I will post the address and I ask for feedback about the functioning of the links. As I learn to use the web editing program, I will add refinements. This could take a while.

It was a kind of a joke. I put some arrows pointing to the smile face.

I just changed the link to Phil's site on our site. The pictures don't work, at least, that's my result. While I was at it, I deleted the links to Tom Morris' tutorials that usta be on Walter Umland's site, and also Larry Richards' site, both of which have apparently been taken down. I hope the Tom Morris .pdf's have been preserved someplace, but I don't know where that is. :'( Maybe PAMPA? :! Steve

Yeah Steve, all the links I sent to my documents and favorites didn't work either, so they are now gone to recycle. The only ones I have are the 1/2A's that I sent the individual pictures to my pictures. Just love the way AT&T keeps downsizing, even when I worked for SBC(used to be Southwestern Bell). Glad I got out when I could. D>K H^^

seems to be too late already. The link says "content blocked"!

Try this:

OK, I think I finally have the pictures to where they will show up. Please check the site and tell me if you if you see them. If you don't see the pics, try refreshing the page. Let me know what you see.
-
I just finished checking and correcting every link on all 4 pages of my link site. I had a lot of bad links, some had changed, a lot disappeared. As of right now, they all work. Tomorrow, who knows.
-
Looks good to me...but I got sidetracked to one of those sites... ;D Steve
-
The link is now in my favorites site. H^^
-
The program I have now makes it easier to edit the links, so I may be able to rearrange them to make things easier.
