I had this e-mail in my computer this morning.  Just another little reminder that we are no longer citizens, but subjects.

A new FDC NOTAM/TFR has been issued for the greater Seattle, WA metro area for Tuesday, 8/17 from 10:15a until 4:15p PDT. The TFR is issued for security purposes to cover VIP movement in this area. Model aircraft operations are prohibited in the 30nm circle for the specific times listed below. Please note that TFRs are subject to change with very short notice. Check back often for the most current NOTAM/TFR information.

  I notice that, in typical Government style, they didn't specify what type of "model activity" was restricted.  Thus it could be interpeted that even UC is restricted also.
  I wonder if this was pointed out to the FAA to see if in fact UC is included.
    Everyone ought to move to KS.  VIP politicans NEVER  visit here. So,  no problem.

We had an Obama grounding a week ago last Friday.

It was 50-mile radius around Dearborn, the home of more Muslims than most countries in the middle east.  We were forbidden to fly from 0930 to 1615. I flew from 0930 to 1345, but I was just exhausted and some kids were coming out to play footie, so I failed to make it to 1615.  I didn't even see a valuable target the whole time.  In my professional opinion, AF One would probably hit a 150' cell phone tower before I got a shot at it with my 60' lines.

Obama no-fly times are like the Mexican border.  It's a Federal thing.  Let the Feds enforce it.

Got this from local club dude that asked the queston and got this answer:

Control line flying is not included in the TFR only RC. This is a Homeland security and Secret Service issue.

I’ll have Rich add a line stating that Control line is not restricted by the TFR

Yeah, we had one of those notices a couple of weeks ago.  I figure just like Shawnee Mission Park, it was only RC and FF.  I was told I could still fly my CL as I showed him my safety thong.  Seems someone bought an ARF and no AMA license.   Plane went into the ball stands of the 3&2 ball complex.  Now you have to be a member of the Shawnee Radio Control Club that requires an AMA license.  Then have to get a park permit to use the field also.

Dave A. is correct. There is NO restriction on CL.

Dave Fitzgerarld looked into this for us as our Dist. X rep and covered it in his recent PAMPA SN column. He said the AMA will try to get this added to future NOTAMs. It may take awhile to get this done.

Aviation has had these airspace restrictions for many years over multiple administrations in DC. The restrictions to RC models was added years ago.  As an RC and CL flyer I think they are more than reasonable restrictions with only a minor inconvenience to us modelers. This safety precaution makes perfect sense and I appreciate the fact that the FAA has not made the restrictions on RC flying much more stringent than they are. They have made every effort to work with us modelers in the difficult world of shared airspace. This is made more difficult over our large cities. We are lucky to have our own organization that works on these issues for us, our AMA.

Citizens throughout the civilized world are more than willing to bear minor inconveniences for the safety of their fellow citizens. Whether it is pulling over to help in the safe passage of an ambulance taking a fellow citizen to the hospital, or not flying in busy airspace to allow a fellow citizen safe passage to complete their duties on our behalf.

A TFR could really throw a monkey wrench in the system if it happened to occur at the same time some club had scheduled a contest.
