Here is a couple of pictures of a 1/6 th scale Duesenberg (that is half the size of the Ferrari and has all the same features) that a friend of mine is building . He too has made everything including the tires.  The engine is a dual overhead cam with a supercharger. Five years so far and expecting three more. Works on it 8-10 hours a day 7 days a week. He has completed a 9 cylinder rotary Bentley engine about 8 inches in diameter.

Both of these are absolutely unbelievable. I cannot even conceive of the skill and patience needed for such a project. I presume the Doozy engine runs, like the Ferrari? Now...can we get these guys to bulid a one-sixth Rolls-Royce Merlin for a scale Mustang? Imagine how THAT would sound in a fly-by!

Would 1/5 scale be sufficient?

Good LORD!! Everybody viewing this site has got to look at the links above to Barry Hares' real, running, 1/5 Rolls Royce Merlin and David Glen's 1/5 scale Spitfire. I was half-kidding about somebody building a Merlin, but there it is...more than 20 years ago, too! The problem I see putting this incredible engine in a flying model is that it's weight would require an airframe strong enough that the wing loading would be off the chart for a flyable model aircraft. Anyone know what use the engine was put to, other than  making the rest of us feel like hopeless amateurs?
