I had a stroke last week. The thing most affected is my speech. Kind of tired also.
As I was in the hospital for all the tests it gave me time to think about my life and I can only say that I have been so blessed to have my family and all my friends. My son and daughters have been a constant source of love and company. Now my modeling family goes back a long way. Like over fifty years in some cases.
At last years Nat's I had some airplane problems and before I knew it There was Brett Buck , Paul Walker. Richard Oliver and Joe Gilbert helping Ryan and I. In 2010 Ryan and I went to the world champ's and had engine problems. He ended up winning with David Fitzgeralds engine ,prop, tank and pipe in his plane and some outstanding coaching from Ted Fancher. When In got serious about stunt in the late 60's Al Rabe spent countless hours coaching me.
Here in Houston My local pals are Darrel Harvin , Frank Williams, Richard Oliver and John Hill. They and my C/L stunt buddies have so enriched my life And I'm so thankful for you all.
Now I'm kind of on pins and needles till I get to the field and see how my flying goes cause the Nat's is just around the corner Bill
-
Bill, my best to you, and I hope that your speech comes back. If they assign you a speech therapist keep in mind that thing you posted about "practice", and be thankful if you get a taskmaster.
At least you can type, still -- if worse comes to worst you can get a tablet PC, and have some computer whiz assign all the cuss words to macro keys for quicker communication when you're frustrated.
-
Hey Bill,
Take care of yourself. I hope that this was minor and you will be back flying very soon.
I'll will never forget how you helped my engine problems with a simple change of what was a new filter. What seemed impossible cured he problem when you replaced my new filter with one out of your tool box.
Keep flying buddy.

Thanks for the kind words. I can talk but I must go slow and enunciate if I'm to be understood. There has been quite a bit on improvement since last week. Oh well , I talk to much anyway. Bill
-
Get well Bill, sorry to hear about this. I remember seeing you in a lot of Windy's videos, and flying your homebuilt. You've really inspired you Grandson.
-
Hi Bill,
Hope you have a full and speedy recovery.
I remember the conversation we had at the Nationals a couple years ago while sitting on the tailgate of my Tahoe. We had not met until that day when you walked up to me and said hello, "I recognize you from Stunt News", and began our conversation. It meant a lot to me that you did that, and I will always remember that time.
Take care of yourself, as time will heal. I pray for your complete recovery.
Blessings my friend;
Larry

Bill, you get well soon, that's what I am praying for. I hope you can make it to the Nats, it would not be the same with out you. And besides, who else could get me in trouble with Brenda. Keep us posted. By for now my friend.
Blessings
The Rev.

So sorry to hear about this Bill. You are in our prayers for a full, speedy recovery. We will see you at the Roundup, in the mean time do what the good doctors tell you. God bless Bill.
Promise I won't bring up Chicago Nats any more. Well, maybe not much.
-
Hi Bill,
I saw dad and he says hi and was happy we'd gotten together a little bit at VSC. He wants to come next year.
Thanks for all of the nice encouragement of my flying, it was really appreciated.
Just read this on a trip so I haven't told anyone about your stroke but they'll soon be pulling for you too, so thoughts and prayers from us in SoCal and we'll see you soon.
Chris...

Hi Bill,
I guess Bummer, is all I can think of to say...
Please take care of yourself and rest. Sounds like the stroke was not too bad (if there's such a thing as a Stroke that's not too bad)...anyway you seem to be in good spirits, and a tough competitor like you will make hash of this problem and be back at it in no time.
Hey! You don't have to talk while you fly anyway. Actually it might help your coach if you can't talk...you have to listen... y1 LL~ LL~

My speech is getting better and I won't know about the rest till I get a handle in my hand. That will be next weekend as the rain will be here all week. By the way my Email address is b727willie@gmail.com. In the pampa book they have it as aol not gmail. I'm looking at this whole thing as a challenge. I plan to be at the nat's and help run classic and old time. I also plan to fly in expert with my new plane which is in silver at the moment. My grandson Ryan came over today and gave me a hand today. Boy am I lucky to have him. When it's time to ink the new bird I will turn it over to him. My number three grandson [13] is becoming a very good artist. He loves to come down and airbrush. Yea I'm really lucky.. Bill

Bill, looking forward to seeing you at the NATS!
Speedy recovery!

Hey Bill, I was fortunate enough to fly on the same circle as you & Ryan last July in Muncie, I really was inspired with your new Classic Plane since I was interested in it myself before I saw yours, I hope you trim it ready to fly for this July I'll fly my Spacehound & will reintroduce myself to you. I used to fly with Lee Uberbacher , Lee had a beautiful Bearcat & he said it was built by Bill Ruthaford I always wanted to meet the guy that built that plane & a couple years back I did. Nice work.
I'd like to welcome you to the Cardiac Care People of America it seems that it affects most people in this country, in June of 2009 I had Cancer Surgery ( 6 years Survivor) then 18 months later I had a Heart Attack on the Tennis court. I'm fine today & you will be too & you're right it gives one time & opportunity to collect his thoughts & put relationships in prospective.
Sincerely want to say hello in July & watch you fly the new Silver Classic plane Bill ..

Best wishes for a full recovery coming from our house, Bill. It was our pleasure to get to know better at VSC this year. Looking forward to flying with you again.

John: I always wondered what happened to that bearcat. Lee was a friend of mine when he lived in the Dallas area. He was sure a nice guy. He was pretty smart too.
-
Hey Bill, along about 2000 Lee was at a Control Line Demo show & when his wife launched the plane she left all his crap , flightbox, fuel can and equipment where it sat... upon landing he beautied right into it destroying the plane.. :'(
-
Best to you Bill. Don't let your dobber down.

Hey Shug
I sure would like to coach you for one day. I don't know why I said that but I would. It would be very rewarding to see you improve. Bill
-
Hoping for continued improvement! It sounds encouraging so far, keep taking care of yourself!
-
Hello Bill,
Sounds like you are making good progress. This is good to hear.
Maybe your first flights back should be on a ringmaster.................. ;D ;D
-
I hate ringmasters.
-
Hello Bill,
Just found out about your health problem. Kathleen and I have you in our prayers! Hope to see you in Oct. at F2B and even in B.R.
