Title: Nose Dubblers
Post by: john e. holliday on October 11, 2006, 08:46:04 AM
I noticed in one of the posts, that a person was saying something about the ply doublers not being far enough back over the wing on the PT-19 plans.  Also the statement was made that maybe we are over building our planes.  In some cases i agree with that statement.  The ARF Flite Streak my grandaughter is/was flying is a case in point of what I see.  When she hits the grass a little too hard trying to do things while flying it pops off.  It usually takes a little epoxy and its back on.  This last time she went in almost verticle.  I had to replace some of the leading edge this time and do a little recovering.  Also had to glue some of the ribs back together.  The hard spars are still solid.  I beleive that if the ply had been extended back to the high point of the wing there would have meen more damage.  My opinion,  DOC Holliday

I'm with you DOC you may get one more shot at the ground but when it goes it takes more structure with it. A full fuse can't take a lawn dart shot as well as a profile. I know as many as I have crashed.

I'm with you Doc on the damage being more severe if the doublers had gone back to the high point--- HOWEVER (ain't there always a catch) (G) running the doublers as well the mount beams farther back will dampen out a lot of vibration  if you happen to have an engine that vibrates a mite more than some others.
