Well according to the internet, which I have come to have much faith in anymore, it looks like our friends up there will not be flying for a while. 114 mph winds, 100 inches of snow and mud slides. At least I hope our guys/gals are doing okay.

Hey Doc...
Last night we had about 35 mph...here in the woods...and only gusts on the Narrows at 58 mph...but SEASIDE OREGON HAD GUSTS AROUND 100 mph...and lots of local flooding. Almost 5 inches of rain just about 20miles north of here...GULLY WASHERS...OFF N ON ALL DAY TODAY! It's that time of year unfortunately.

Doc, Here in E. WA we have had high winds of up to 45mph and light rain until this afternoon when heavy rains came up. No damage that i know of and the rain should bring bumper crops of Winter Wheat next Spring. Right now, about 3:30 the rains are abating and the sky's to the West are clearing.

Well, it hasn't been nice, but the rain has only been about the same as summer in Florida...a downpour. But it only lasts for 3-6 hours at a time, after which it drops to a heavy drizzle. Not a big deal. Winds have been "blustery" here, but not extreme. Floods? I live on top of the hill. Water runs out of every storm drain downhill from here in this sort of weather. On the bright side, I have fresh tires on the 4x4 truck. The oil accumulated on the roads all during July, August, and September are well washed away by now.

Our circle in Chehalis is still dry, but the rivers are still coming up. I hope for all those in the lower areas that the waters start going down.

It's 68 degrees and partly cloudy here in Tucson. Supposed to reach 78 today with light winds. Should be the same tomorrow, they say.

We're sort of resigned to the routine: very little or no flying late November to about March. (At least, that's my excuse for not being among the top 20 in Expert).

The answer is years and years are required to attain official status as a resident of the NW.

I live at the end of a cul-de-sac. Tight neighborhood, low turn-over. A couple years ago we welcomed new neighbors. One family was quite relieved to see this. Having lived here for 12 years they were no longer going to be referred to as "the new people" in the 'hood.

The weather report for tomorrow says low wind and no rain -- I think I'm going to put on my mud boots and get in a few laps before I have to pick my Mom up and go eat turkey with the in-laws.

Not flying because of a little weather? What's wrong with you guys? We went out this morning and flew for hours. Only 30 mph winds and heavy rain, but it slacked off to hail a few times. No problems at all!

Took the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island this evening, and walked the length of the open deck in what felt like 40 mph freezing wind!

In reality, it was 48F, but the wind aided by the cruising speed of the ferry made it feel a whole lot worse!

Has not been bad here. Lots of rain and I have a new lake next to my driveway, but the wind hasn't been too bad. Out on the coast (La Push, Kalaloch) it's pretty ugly with very big waves and lots of wind.

But it's a cool place out here on the Peninsula

How beautiful is the Great North West?.........Well here we are at 12:00 today, enjoying a balmy 44 degree day, with NO wind. You can see Fred does have his coat and sunglasses on.

We few all our battery's out,(yes that is the Genesis from this post http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=29007.0). Hope to do the same tommorrow!!

Had another great day today. Got in 6 flights, had to stop, my hands were getting cold....only38 degrees this morning.

Yes, we are using the Salem field and enjoying it greatly. Came home and warmed up, then looked at the long range weather forecast .....at least 8 days of rain!!!!

It's not all rain and roses here in the NW. There are tsunamis, of course, and the mountains (second picture) often blow up, and we have so many earthquakes that we are itching like men on fuzzy trees.

Sorry. I must not have been clear on this.

Firstly, few of us encourage folk to move to the NW. Secondly, you must live in a nice neighborhood for 10-12 years after which we will consider taking you off the new-guy list.

What?! I must speak to Howard about this. That squash is an heirloom variety, virtually unknown outside the NW. In my view it makes the very best "pumpkin" pies; and yes I know all about "Sugar Baby" pumpkins, having grown them in my garden, bought them at fruit stands.

In short, we simply cannot be sharing treasures such as pies made from Sweet Meat squash with newbies.

I'm more of a Fremont kinda person...

However, kites are really fun. At a NATS years ago, Paul Baluch, Rich Tupper, Lou Scavone, and I believe Ivan MacKenzie had some set up with a control line handle. I was lucky enough to get a shot...not so lucky that it lead to a flight on one of Rich's F2D ships...

This time of year in the Willamette valley we have the weather report. We also have dice marked "rain", "light rain", "heavy rain", "scattered rain", "clouds", and "sun". Tossing the dice is often just as accurate as looking at the weather report.
