Relating to control line while I was on a vacation from 9/8 to 9/23. I was in Seattle from the 8th to the 10th. I looked about for CL circles but found none. The weather was beautiful both days even got to see Mt Rainier. Left for Vancouver on the 10th. Still the weather was ideal. Returned to Seattle on the 23rd and again the weather was idea for CL flying. Left on the 24th for Houston and Florida. Again the weather was good. In Alaska I saw lots of places where Cl could be done but no circles. I am sure by now that the weather in the NW has returned to normal (rain) and in Alaska (cold). General comments are; Boeing field museum is a must see. Air Force One plus the Concorde toured both. Alaska, I never saw so many private planes anywhere. That is all. Chuck

There's a pretty active control line scene up there -- you should have posted here and asked!

Texas has lots of activity, Florida not so much but in all cases there are people and places, as mentioned post and ask.

The wife and I just returned from an Alaska Cruise/Tour. The tour guide said that 1 in 52 people in Alaska has a pilots license.

There are a few more places where CL is flown in the PNW, but this link will get you to a lot of them, either by maps or text directions. There's still a site in Redmond, OR, for instance, tho it's mostly used for C/R helicopters, and we can now fly on a daily basis at Auburn Municipal, aka Dick Scobee Field. Some are grass, some paved, some are open to the public (with AMA card), and some are restricted to club members and their guests. y1 Steve

Not only does Alaska have more licensed private pilots per ca pita than any other place on earth but they also boast of having more unlicensed pilots as well. Usually the dad gets his license and a float plane. Then he teaches everyone else in the family to fly the thing. Most never get their official license. The reason is Alaska is so primitive that they are lacking in roads. You cannot drive to the state's capital. You either have to go by boat or plane. It is amazing to see from the deck of Princess cruise ship Diamond. I consider it the trip of my lifetime.

Glad you got to see it, Jerry. I spent 5 years in Ketchikan one summer, working in a salmon cannery. On the drive from the airport (ferry dock at the N. side of downtown, to the bunkhouse on the S. side, maybe 2 miles), I counted 10 bald eagles, one doing a straffing run on the main drag. Even from shore, the scenery is pretty amazing, looking up & down the Tongass Narrows from Deer Mountain on a clear day. I wanted to take a Beaver flight out to Klawock, but never had any predictable time off. :'( I'd love to take the boat to AK one way and fly the other. y1 Steve

I just logged on thinking maybe I should remove this topic. However it looks like it is more interesting than I thought. So I will leave it alone. Jerry's observation is interesting. Beaver flight was one of my desires to but I did not do it. So to all who wish to share there thoughts go ahead. Chuck Feldman
