NEWS! Jack Sheeks Awards at VSC 2008
« on: May 31, 2007, 12:50:40 AM »
Jack Sheeks is perhaps the most prolific designer of Stunt, Scale and RC airplanes of our life time. In addition he is one of the nicest people on the face of the earth.

During the Classic Era, (1953 to the end of 1969) Jack published, designed, approx. 20 CL Stunt airplanes. From that time to the present, Jack has published 27 more airplanes in Flying Models alone!

John Miller and I are coordinating plans to present a perpetual award for the Best Jack Sheeks Classic Stunter starting at the Vintage Stunt Championships, VSC-XX, 2008. Jack Sheeks has agreed to be the judge for this award.

In addition there will be an award for the highest placing Jack Sheeks airplane!

Following is a list of Sheeks airplanes that are eligible for Classic Stunt. This list will be updated if more information becomes available.

I want to thank Jack Sheeks, and Frank Fanelli of Flying Models for there help in compiling this information.

Special thanks also to Robin Sizemore, and the Cholla Choppers.

Dennis, watch out as VSC can be habit forming.  I think Jim Lee only missed the first one in California.  If I make it, it will be number 14 for me.  DOC Holliday

Jacks Sheeks was our hero. Jose Modesto and I remember him carrying us through the "lean times" when there were no stunt planes being published in magazines. Jack stepped up and took us through that dark period.  I remember saying that if it wasn't for Jack, we wouldn't have any stunt articles at all!!

My thanks to Tom. He's picked up the ball on an idea we were discussing on the Classic portion of the forum, and done a great job  contacting the right people, and putting this tribute together.

I cannot think of a better way to let the love flow to Jack for all his work on our behalf during those years.

I hope a lot of our classic flying friends will look at the list, and join us with a Sheeks design for VSC XX.

I"ve always wanted to build a "Demon"  (I think it was called "Enya Demon" in the original Mag article).  I guess now I have an excuse.

I was hoping that Robert won't mind me putting the announcement on the open forum. Since we have to build these airplanes very soon, I wanted to get the word out to the maximum amount of people.. Thanks Robert.

Randy.. I guess you are now challenged to built the "Scottsman"

The (Enya .35) "Demon" and the "Freedom 45" are absolutley beautiful. Also, when I returned to the most northern town in NJ, I flew out of the Warwick, NY airport, which was operated by Bill Faulk. Jack's "Knight" is a vivid reminder of Bill's famous "Rivets"

Dennis, you are correct... Frank C. has got to build the "Sky Rocket" and get to VSC... Have you decided on a Sheeks design yet?

I have discussed errors on the "Sea Vixen" drawing with Jack, and discussed how to make the necessary changes, mainly the correct span is 56", not the 52 1/2" on the FM drawing.  My thanks to Jack for helping me out! Construction of the "Sea Vixen" has started.

Everyone: Please help.

I have contacted the magazines about the Jack Sheeks Awards, starting VSC XX, and will try to contact many of the clubs.

Please spread the word.

Hopefully we will have many of Jack's Classics for 2008, but building will have to start soon.
