I need a favor. Does anyone live near Winter Haven, Florida? My sister is there and needs advice with an electrical issue at her house. She is new to the area and I'm trying keep her from getting clobbered. If anyone here is near there( boy, that looks weird) and could help or knows someone I would be ever grateful. Thanks. Dan Berry

Can you get your sister to move to the Seattle area? I'd help then, no problem. (bump) D>K Steve

:) They've been there about 7 months. Anything resembling cold weather isn't in the cards.
The problem has been fixed. They had a bad circuit breaker and now they know how to change one out. I suspected it was a bad breaker. Home Depot had the breaker and explained how to change it. An electrician was trying to convince them of a lot of issues- some of which they have- but he didn't fix this problem. He had changed the breaker with an incompatible one and the door wouldn't close. And it didn't get the oven running. For 81 bucks.
I am having a hard time coming to grips with a jackstand putting the wrong breaker into a panel, charging for it, leaving them with a non-working 'solution' and probably hoping they would call him back. She and her husband are not real mechanical when it comes to home-maintenance stuff. I told her they need to find a fishing buddy who can look at crap like that. They're just new to town and haven't met a guy like most of us probably are.
Earlier, I tried deleting the thread after I knew they were OK. I couldn't delete it.
I did get an offer but he is 100 miles away which I thought was very generous of a guy I've never met but it was sincere.

Now they need to report the clown to the better business bureau. Glad they are getting things fixed. D>K

I had to take that power away because of abuse by some. Sorry

Dan I am sorry our sister got hosed
Tough times in a lot of major disaster areas as one might imagine a LOT of butt heads come out of the wood work at screw people
In 2017 well into the 21st century, there are just too many ways to adequately protect against scams....some do cost a few bucks and some are absolutely free by the state Attorney General
Knowledge is power
In Your sisters case...I strongly recommend she go to the state web site....find the right area and report that ass hat to the Attorney General... WHO has vowed to prosecute all scammers and gougers.... sounds like a perfect case to me

It's OK.
I figured pulling it would avoid annoying anyone.
She's OK. They just need to know more people and need to know more about home ownership.
Part of what the guy told'em is correct. There is some stuff that wouldn't pass inspection on a new house.
Putting an incompatible breaker in is a sticky point for me. The correct breaker was 10 bucks at the Orange Box.
Sometimes you just walk away. That's what my Dad taught me when I got hosed at a Pinewood Derby in scouts.
