Ly and I flew CL way back in the late '50s, early '60s, both members of the 2nd Bomb Wing, B-47 Strato Jet.

Very intersting to see the landings with one engine on idle. Also how the plane will not let you over stress the wing.

I retired from the flight controls group before the 787 was finished, so I missed out on much of this stuff except questioning the value of a HUD.  Boeing philosophy was (and I presume still is) not to have the automatic stuff overrule the pilot.  I presume the maneuver load alleviation still lets him maneuver as hard as he wants, but makes the g loading at which he hurts the airplane higher than it would have been with the lift distribution set for best gas mileage.  You don't care that much about gas mileage when you're trying to avoid a mountain.

Physics I is next semester. Aerodynamics and "technical" stuff won't start until next year

Just plain old dynamics.  When you get there, calculate the accelerations on a passenger aways out the wing during a turn entry.
