Nobler Tank and Controls
« on: January 15, 2012, 01:31:39 PM »
Doing up a 57 Green Box Nobler. I am leaning towards a new Dixon "Right Stuff" Tower 40 for power. A Brodak 40 and Fox 35 are still options at this time. With the narrow fuselage does anyone make a 4.5 oz metal uniflow tank that will fit this design. Or have people been using clunk tanks? I have also noticed people using drop in Tom Morris Controls for the ARF nobler.  Will this work for the green box version as well and where to get the ready made set?  Are all the leverages for the Morris controls  the same as shown on the plans?

Thanks

Of those, I would strongly suggest the Brodak 40, followed by the Fox. The problem with either the Brodak or the Tower/Dixon motor. is that you might have some trouble fitting it in. But if you do, I think the Brodak motor will provide the best performance.

Making your own tank is pretty easy, but there are people making narrow tanks that will fit. I would also note that the tank shown on the GreenBox plans *doesn't fit*! It's just a little too wide. You have to relieve the doublers a bit (easy since they are balsa) or make it narrower. Other than that, stretching it 3/4" should give you plenty of capacity. You can plumb it for uniflow and the shape actually works pretty well.

I agree. As a bonus, the Brodak and the Fox are at least 2 oz. lighter than the Tower.
