So, there it is. Not at all what I planed. Sigh.... It will need a lot of work before it sees the light of day or certainly a contest. First up and a bigger engine. It's pretty tail heavy as it sits there. Rather than just plaster 2 or more ounces in the nose, I think I'll rework it for a bigger engine. Seems to make more sense.

I haven't flown it yet, but it only has a nominal relationship to the original USA-1. It's more than 50 square inches bigger (720 vs about 774) and moments and areas are quite a bit different. It does use Werwages original airfoil, but I punched it up about 3.16" thicker. It's overweight, but then, I thought the original USA-1 built was porky at 53 oz. This is closer to 64 or 66. And it's tailheavy. I may trade out the OS46VF I had planed to use for more horsepower (and a heavier engine). If I had to add yet more weight to get it to balance, I'd just as soon add horsepower too.

Gosh, dunno what to say.  Umm errr we are talking about just the picture <snicker> aren't we [playing dumb now] .  I am thinking that if I ever get this dadburned shoulder thing corrected and need  a larger plane this style sure would be it.  I have said it all before, WOW.  Please bring it to the NW Regional just for show and if I can make it I sure as the dickens want some photos  .  This needs to have an article of construction posted, yep throw in the mold photos of those gorgeous ne'er to be seen pants too  ,

Yea, it has a 1/2" extension. Did this because I wanted to be able to change out to the RO-Jett .65 to try that out and it allowed me to do that. Both the OS and the RO-Jett with drop in with plenty of room. Besides, with a plane this big and only a 1.75" spinner, you need to make some space up there.

We'll see. I'm going to just throw a spinner weight in weekend to get it to balance and put in a flight or two. With 12.5-13 oz./ft2 wing loading, it may wallow. If this were my high aspect, thick and blunt airfoiled plane, the Heretic, that would probably be almost too light, but with what is largely a Werwage approached wing design, it's pretty piggy. Bill designs great wings, but they aren't meant to carry much weight. Just have to see. I know the elliptical plane flies pretty well now that I have the tank problem worked out, so that will likely be the candidate for the Regionals...unless this flies a lot better off the board than I'm expecting.
