tool to help accurate building (with pics)
« on: December 22, 2013, 08:25:35 AM »
Whilst juggling with the tips and ribs of the teosawki I had an idea.  a month ago I bought a cheap tool designed for setting helicoptor blades (the model kind) and I have thought of several ways of using it but for the current requirement I came up with a very simple jig.

I made a very precise rectangular plate in 1/4" ply making very sure that the sides were parallel and perpendicular.  I then fitted 2 accurate pins for the device to clip onto.  It has worked very well.  It has proved a very easy way to make sure that the tip ribs are parallel with each other and with the fuselage.

The total cost was $16 for the device from EBAY and about 30 mins work

Hello Mike,
I am not into model helicopters, so I am not familiar with the cheap pitch gauge(?). Is it simply an electronic spirit level. If not what exactly is it?

Regards,

Andrew.

Yes just a really cheap and light electronic spirit level with a clip feature but so cheap that it would  be rude not to buy one  It only works from 0° to +90° or -90° and its resolution is 0.1°
I was originally intending to extend it for checking the accuracy of wings and tails and making sure that the incidence of all parts of a model are true

Thanks Mike,
My immediate thoughts were to use it to ensure wing incidences etc were correct, so you are a jump ahead of me! I also build vintage stuff, so my wing and tailplane incidences are not always 0-0.
Is this another Hobby King offering? If not maybe you could point me in the direction of a UK supplier?

Thanks,

Andrew.
