That was a great movie. Saw it twice. Thanks for the memory

Neville Shute or, Neville Shute Norway to give hime his full name, was a very experienced aeroplane designer, he worked with Barnes Wallis on the design of the R100 airship before WW2 and he also started the Airspeed aircraft company who built many wonderfull aeropanes. His autobiography "Slide Rule" is still one of my favorite books and a must read for any one interested in aero engineering.

Couldn't agree more - I love it, book and film. Slide Rule is also great, but for my money the absolute best of his books is Trustee From The Toolroom: fiction, and based on the premise that model engineers are an international brotherhood - as indeed they (we?) are. Somebody should have filmed it long ago - Charles Bronson would have made a great Jack Donelly!

On a three hour drive home from a Lost Hills FF contest, I happened to find on the car radio a rebroadcast of the old Lux radio show, No Highway. Same actors as the movie. Great entertainment! No Highway and Spirit Of St. Louis, two of my favorite Jimmy Stewart aviation movies.
