No Flying This Weekend
« on: April 18, 2008, 11:20:52 PM »
I reported on the new Skyraiders flying field at Tacoma Narrows airpark last week. It's truly a great site. But I'm afraid it will be a bit before any of us fly there. The weather report for this weekend is snow. I mean really! This is Puget Sound. We aren't suppose to get snow at all or maybe just a bit of dust once or twice a year in December or January. Not a predicted 6 inches on April 20th!!

Sigh... Well, I'll spend the weekend at an indoor horse show anyway, but still, it would have been nice to at least slip out for a couple of hours a get in a couple of flights...

I'd fly in the snow before I sat in a horseshow.

Yep,

Looking out today we got a few flurries. Nothing substantial yet, but it's sure cold. Time to start seriously considering that move to Tucson.

Hi Randy,

We would love to have you come fly at People's Church, unless the wind is blowing to hard. Might be a long drive, when I worked in Olympia, WA, I would drive back to Fresno, on the weekends. Then we moved there for several years. Love the area, just hard to get many flying days. Can't remember which school we flew at, flew the smoothie and Jim Van Voo's Chipmunk. Loved both planes but they don't live any more, fox 35's just wasn't enough power for me. Didn't crash them, got stole out of the garage. Ended my flying career for a few years. Being young, raising a family, trying to make a living, couldn't afford new toys.

You can use gooles map to see our flying sight. We try to fly on Sunday's from three to five in the afternoon, also fly on Tuesday's from around ten to one in the afternoon. Could fly longer, just tire out and go home.(I guess that's why we are retired, Ha Ha ). Usually one field is enough but if we get enough flyer's we go to two circles, could do more circles if we got enough flyer's. Have a great day and God Bless, Gary

Gary,

Great. You sound like my brother. I talked to him this morning (he lives in Sierra Vista, AZ). I complained about the weather, he said, "yea, I'm just heading out for a ride on my motorcycle in my shirtsleeves. Real bad here; about 75 degrees and sunny."

Yeah, I spoke to my mom in Tacoma the other day and she told me about the forecast.  Shoot, even here in the frozen tundra we had snow on the ground last weekend.  Temps have moderated a bit but I've suffered a slight setback.  For the second time in the past 2 years one of the sump pumps in our basement failed and we had 2" of standing water in our finished room down there - the one with all my RC planes standing on their nose.  I had 7 of them which got their noses soaked, either the wood itself or the engines.  A restoration crew came out to dry everything out, toss out the carpet, pad, baseboard casings and removed 4 feet of the drywall.  Insurance company says they'll have no issue with replacing the models/engines so I get to go shopping when the check gets here.

Indoor horse show?  Become one of their judges and you'd be qualified to head up FEMA or some other gov't agency.  Well, as long as you know the right sort of people.

Also waterlogged was my router table and my CL Twister.  Some unfinished kits such as a Sig Banshee and Brodak Vector were off the floor and escaped any damage.

There you go calling me a old man again buy I am out there judging while you are sitting by the fire at home. I'll remember this and like an old elephant  or my wife  I never forget. We miss ya here but not really sure why. As usual the news media has decided to sensationalize the weather forcast. I think I will have to have a little talk with them. HB~> HB~> HB~> HB~>

We have weird weather going on today. It's sort of sunny, in a filtered, moisture in the air sort of way. High humidity and it's COLD. Yea, global warming. Yea, that it. Prediction is for snow later. Wonderful.

Heard from our son in Vancouver, BC Fri nite when he told us they were having a "Thunder Snow". Huge flakes, thunder and lightning.

Good grief Gertrude!

Yup, we still love Florida...

Well we had great weather here in Milwaukee, 70s calm and sunny.

This is for Randy,
On Saturday my track team had an INDOOR meet.  300+ sweaty kids in a hot field house.  The 200m had 14 heats.... a long hot stuffy day.

Next Saturday for our first outside meet, I am sure it will be cold wet and miserable.  Track is about suffering I guess.  This happens every year, the weather is great for the indoor meets can crappy for the outdoor ones.

Oh yes I did get out on Sunday with Joe and Chris for a little while.

Leo,

Figures. I spent yesterday and today at a horse show. The spouse did pretty well, getting 4th in training level event and 1st in the English equitation event. She was smiling and I can get back to the shop. Man it was cold here. In the mid-30s most of the day. Glad you guys had a good time. Hopefully I can pull it together for the Regionals.
