Title: No Brakes!!!
Post by: Paul Taylor on October 08, 2022, 09:44:05 PM
I have a electric setup on a Nobler and the prop keeps spinning after the timer shuts off. It slowly spins and does not allow me to glide the plane in.
I read a thread that explains my exact dilemma but need more info.
It’s a BA ESC with. FM-9 timer. The BA is basically a mantis.
Looking at another thread the Mantis has a default of breaking off.
Do I need to change it to “On” in order to stop the prop? Or “Soft Break”?
Thanks

I'd try Soft Brake first. It stops the prop a bit more gently.

Also, the Default list says that Cutoff Voltage is 1 (2.8V). I'd consider changing that to match your battery pack. Or not too much less than what your pack is.

Thanks. I’ll adjust.

Are you SURE that the slowly spinning prop is what's not allowing the plane to glide in? I saw a bunch of slow spinning props on e-stunters a few weeks ago that had no trouble gliding in to a decent landing. I'd wonder if the CG is too far aft.  H^^ Steve

Another thing that will KILL the glide on a flapped stunter is having "up flap" at "neutral elevator".  n1 Steve

Sailplanes use that for just that reason - to kill the glide.

When Winfred appeared at the Nats with his infared throttle, a bunch of flok watched intently, saying that it was a "crash" if the prop was turning when the wheels touched the grund. I guess that's changed.
