The WC Team Trials.......
« on: September 08, 2017, 09:14:10 PM »
Guys,
I'm thinking of entering the WC Team Trials right here in Dallas.  It's always been on my bucket list.  I have zero chance of even coming close and a 100% chance of being in last place.

What do you guys think of somebody entering a contest with zero chance of doing anything but end up in last place?  Am I just taking up air time?  Do the judges despise me for making them sit through an awful pattern in the warm sun?  Do the other competitors think the same?

Or, how many that do enter will really have a chance to make the team?  I haven't looked at how many attend the team trials on the average.  IIRC, 3 will make the team with 1 alternate and 1 junior entrant.

Let's hear what your thoughts are on this.  I'm thinking of sending in my entry fee this coming week.

Can anybody point to me on how to enter the TT?  Are their any pre-qualifications, etc.

  Hi Crist;
I think you should get all practiced up and take a shot. I have always wanted to do the same thing but lots of little stuff and some big stuff gets in the way. If you have the time , desire, and I know you have some talent, by all means put up your best flights and see how you stack up.  But I would make it a serious attempt. get yourself a good coach and work on it as much as you can in the short time you have left before the team trials. I know there are several top fliers in your neck of the woods that would help you out. And think of the experience. It's open to everyone, why not you, or me! Find Randy Smith's recent post on the changes and I think he is the one to contact about getting an entry packet out.
   Good luck!

Unlike the Nats, you will fly on the same circle(s) as everyone else. This will allow you to see where you stand against some of the best pilots in the country. There are usually
12-15 pilots attending and the top 10 go into the finals. You will have a good opportunity to be a finalist in the US team trials... Sounds pretty cool doesn't it?

You will also be contributing to the team, by increasing the number of entrant's to the event, something the AMA pays attention to.

And it's fun!

Enjoy,
Derek

Hi Crist
Come on over and fly ..... now that we have moved to Dallas we are a little closer for some.  Here are the official words about entry.

I – Qualification   Contestants must be members of the AMA; they do not need an FAI stamp. Senior entrants must be 19 years of age. Junior entrants must not become 19 years of age during the calendar year of 2014. (USA team members selected are required to have an FAI stamp to compete in the World Championships).
III – Entry Fees   The program entry fee is $100.00 for seniors and must be sent to AMA Headquarters, postmarked no later than 30 days prior to finals. (Caution: allow 10 days for mail delivery). A late entry fee of $125.00 may be accepted at the Finals site the day prior to the contest.    The junior entry fee is $50.00 and must be sent to AMA Headquarters, postmarked no later than 30 days prior to finals. Late junior entry fee is $60.00 on the site.   Any Senior and Junior entry fees collected on site must be forwarded to AMA Headquarters by the Contest Director immediately after the contest.    Refund request will be honored if such request is received at AMA Headquarters no later than two days prior to the first day of the finals

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the info.  Is there anybody that can email me a pdf copy of the entry forms?  I can fill themout and get a check in the mail Monday.  I think I can just beat the 30 days notice!

I think for anyone intrested in competition flying , the Team Trials would be good to enter . High Pressure enviroment & tension better than the Wimbilton Finals , these days . ;D

We had better send a cinamatograper ( Vieo Guy , to you and me ) . Correctly Presented could be a big boost the the ' trade ' . Need a bit of character background & suspence ,
then it'd be a Feature Film .

One of those high powered lenses could get good pilot stuff , or a thing planted out there catching both plane and pilot ??

Anyway , the event in previous magazine reports is high drama , with all the makeings of a dramatic film ! . STATIC camera for Full Pattern recordings tho , perhaps. with zoom ??

I am 3 hours away and would like advice on best 5 hours to just spectate and see what right looks like

Is there a list of who's who trying to make the team?

Fred it's non-stop and fast paced action both days.  Actually three days since everyone will be practicing hard Friday too.  Actual finals are Sunday.  I'd be there by 8:00 am.  Could be over by 1-2 Sunday.
