Next Summer
« on: August 28, 2009, 10:38:51 AM »
Well, I'm finally going to do something I've wanted to do for a long time, I'm going to take 3 weeks and tour Rt 66 on my 1950 Indian motorcycle. Of course that means a serious curtailing of my modeling activities but I've been kind of burnt out anyway. Even though this is a motorcycle trip, I sure would like to meet up with some stunt flyers along the way as I pass on through. So, there must be clubs and groups along the 66 corridor within 50-75 miles. Could you guys let me know where you're at so I might be able to swing by and meet and watch you fly a bit? I won't be on any schedule, and I don't know how far west I'll get since I like to stop and explore and wander, but it'd be nice to have a few opportunities to meet up and tells some lies with some of you.

Way cool Randy!
I rode (or tried to ride) Route 66 in 1982....I would wager that it is a LOT easier to find stretches of the original road now than then because of appreciation for what it stood/stands for.....
I've also ridden all of Route 6, and almost all of Route 50....
Have fun!

Thanks

Hey Randy; I just live 90 miles north of Wichita, and I can have Marvin let me know when you are going to be there, so I can meet up with you also. We have traded some engines in the past, and it would be nice to meet you in person. I might ride my Harley down, or drive the van with some planes.

Randy,

One of my new flying buddies (another Bill Lee), just rode the western part of Rt 66 into Tucson, on his Harley. Said he really enjoyed the trip, and was very well received by folks along the old route.

Don't think he gets on the forums, but I will ask him if he can offer any advice for your trip.

If you get to Albuquerque give us a call. You can stop by the shop or the field depending on the day you are here. Route 66 runs through the middle of town and my shop is about 2 miles off of 66.
