Stunt Brothers in Calgary???
« on: June 23, 2013, 11:03:34 PM »
Any news from our stunt buddies in Calgary, Bryan Carr, Marek Kozera, and Will Reeb? The news reports I read on the flooding sound positively shocking! Let's hope they are safe and well.  y1 Steve

I would be curious too. I've gotten to know Bryan from the N.W. Regional. I hope all is well with him. My wife and I are thinking of visiting Calgary next month. Might be fun to meet him at his flying field, it it's above water.

To say its shocking is an understatement!!   It's been unreal!!  I talked to Will by facebook today. He was ok although his house had about 20 inches of water in the basement!   I haven't heard from Brian or Marek yet.... Crazy weather everywhere

Thanks for the kind thoughts.   I'm fine as our house is about  80 to 100 feet above the main river level.  Marek is likely OK as I believe his area is also quite high and well away from the river.

I called Will Reeb yesterday as |I knew his house was close to the Bow River.  His sewer line baked up and flooded his basement.  I offered any help he might need but it appears to be mainly  all under control now.  With water in his basement, the local authority has shut off his power for safety .  He lost most  of his plans (not planes) and some balsa wood stock.  He had taken his airplanes upstairs prior to the flood.

Warren Horbachewski and his son Ryan, our newest flyers, live in Okotoks  (about 10 miles south of Calgary) and we have been in touch.  He lives in a high area also so no problems for him.  We planned to fly on Sunday  but our field had been aerated by the City last week after they cut the grass  and left big earth turds all over our 3 possible flying fields . Hopefully next weekend .   Biggest problem is mosquitoes (the biting insect kind).  All this wet weather has spawned a swarm of them but DEET keeps them at bay.

Warren and I will be flying at the Vancouver contest in July.  Hope to see you there Steve

Brian, if you come to Calgary please contact me.  It would be great to get together.  I have a spare plane if required.

Bring your passports! My advise is to use credit card in Canada...currency exchange is a PITA and you lose, no matter what. If they'll take US $, use that. I don't know about Calgary...maybe, being closer to the border, but in Eddie, they act like they've never seen a US $. Getting stuck with a bunch of CN $ to bring home isn't worth the agony. But if you get to Calgary, please ride the zipline at the Olympic Park and tell me all about it! I want to do it, but probably won't get up there this year.  H^^ Steve

I'll have to google the zipline to check it out. That may be fun, but I can guarantee my wife wouldn't think so. As for the currency, I live on my credit card. I have everything, business and personal, automatically billed to it. The points build up fast that way. A few years ago I got Best Buy gift cards for my points and got a 46" LED Sony TV for "free". And got it in Oregon to avoid CA sales tax, that was the best part!

Yep, I'll have my CC handy.

Glad to hear you are OK Bryan. Better that than the measley cheque the government is offering those with damage to their homes/property. Sorry to hear Will took a hit. He has a lot of cool stuff down his basement.  Hopefully the majority was untouched. Let Will know Joan and I are thinking about him if you see him.

Sounds like the worst is over now.   Look forward to seeing you in Vancouver next month.

Chris
