Title: News from Puyallup?
Post by: Tim Wescott on June 22, 2013, 10:14:33 PM
I didn't make it.  I got as far as putting the airplane in my car yesterday morning, but then I ended up working way late installing an OS* on my computer.

So -- how's it going?

* Operating system.  Not a motor.

Yeah Tim
Nathan was putting in a flight over the carrier circle after the contest to get ready for beginner Sunday.  Ad he crashed that Skyray you gave him.  He started repairing it after we came home.  He was set off a little rich and I came in on him.  Not much damage, the worst was the bellcrank came loose.  I don't know how though, it wasn't that bad of a crash and it was over grass.  Other than that, it was a great day.  Nathan took 2nd in carrier, he was flying my plane for me.  I wasn't feeling up to it today.

Here's hoping he gets it fixed!

I hope the bellcrank wasn't my fault -- I inherited that plane and had to work over the control system a couple of times.  I thought I had all the issues resolved.

And which island is that?   I would go back to the Big Island(Hawaii) in an instant if they would let me.  Getting away from the tourist areas it was great, especially higher up on the slopes at Kona.

I don't know what happened to the controls, but it should go back together.  He put an engine in the other skyray last night.  We are getting ready to leave right know.  We start at 9am this morning.

Weather was sunny and hot Saturday, with predictably unpredictable shifty breezes that PO'd fliers and judges alike. Sunday was a bit misty, solid overcast, but much more stable wind direction. Not quite stunt heaven, but not far off it. The following results are from memory, so you know how that goes, and the usual disclaimers.

Beginner was taken by Daniel Johnson over Colton Lutz. Neither did the complete Beginner pattern, but Colton did his first loops ever, and had G'pa yelling at him "That's enough!".  ;D Judges: Pete Peterson & Steve Helmick

Intermediate was taken by Rex Abbott, then Marc Winz and Mike (aka Dave) Denlis. Judges: PW and Alan Resinger (I think?)

Advanced was a spectacular battle between Tom Strom, Pete Ferguson, and an old guy, with the old guy edging out Tom, and Pete trailing slightly. The old guy was judging Expert, so downgraded self into Advanced (scores showed it was an ok move). Judges: Pete Peterson and Mike Haverly

Expert was a real dawg fight (call the SPCA!), with PW/Flaming Dawg triumphing over Chris Cox/Crossfire by 1/2 point, and Howard's Dawg in 3rd, I think 3 points farther back.  Judges: Pete Peterson and Steve Helmick

CD:  Dave Gardner
Tabulation: Howard
Field Setup: Few!
Teardown: Many!
(many would have worked much better for the setup!)

Where were all the usual suspects that should have been there, but weren't? Turnout was disappointing, to say the least. If the weather forcast kept you away, you messed up!  R%%%% Steve

Weather on the Big Island was fine. Low 80s with a nice on shore breeze that kept the vog at the volcano where it belongs. Snorkeling at Honalu'u was quite good except for the sunburn I picked up (not too bad with some aloe). Holualoa tomorrow. Maybe a trip down to Kealakekua and Kona Joe's coffee.

Life is good.

weeather not a factor,, it was beautifull in Pullman,,
sadly, I flew my flights and the judges did not see it well,,

no scores were returned,,

aside from flying one of my RC planes through the power lines whilst attempting to rid the world of a pesky helium filled balloon,,

and Steve,, yes attendance was dissapointing,, I was not there,,
