Newer cast/syn Fox Fuel
« on: September 14, 2006, 08:50:21 PM »
Has anyone had any experience running the castor/synthetic Fox fuel in OS-LA or Brodak motors. We are supposed to be going by the Fox Factory on Friday to pick up a few gallons of Superfuel and I thought I might  try some of their newer mixes of fuel.

Check out the percentages of FOX fuels on their fuel web page.

The blend I was looking at is 10% nitro, 20% oil(50/50 castor /synthetic. Seems like a fairly decent blend. Might want to kick up the oil content to 22 %. I just wondered if anyone had tried it. Sometimes different brands of fuel with similar oil/nitro contents might not all be created equal.

I see it says castor/synth blend, but where does it say "50/50"? I'd ask, personally.

"Back in the day", I used a lot of Fox and K&B fuel, and had pretty good results with both. I don't know anybody locally that sells Fox fuel. Powermaster is my favorite :X now.   n~ Steve

Remember when Fox fuel use to be almost everywhear, most hobby shops around the country carried it.. Now it's rare you ever see it.. If we wern't so close to the Fox factory we wouldn't even know it still existed.. Makes me sad...

If you're looking at a 10/20 fuel with 50/50 castor/synthetic then why not Sig Champion?  Comes like that out of the jug and no futher mixing.  Most of our local fliers add an additional 5oz of castor to the Sig fuel.

Sig fuel is available virtually everywhere I've looked.

Since we were going to be visiting the Fox factory anyway, I just thought it would be a good thing to take advantage of the opportunity and pick up some fuel that would be suitable for modern ABC/ABN motors.

Elwyn,
Just a word of advice regarding picking the fuel up at FOX. On his return from Arizona to Chicago, one of our club members (Bud Bodzioch) stops every spring at FOX to pick up fuel for the club. He does call ahead and places the order to ensure the desired fuel is available. Apparently FOX runs the different fuel mixtures in batches at different times during the year and doesn't always have every fuel mix in stock. However, we do buy a lot of fuel at one time (i.e. about 30 cases).
The different FOX fuels are very popular in our club. They run well. A lot of the guys buy FOX Superfuel to run in the vintage engines (i.e. FOX .35 Stunt, McCoys, etc.). They also use the FOX Superfuel mixed 50/50 with WILDCAT brand fuel to creat "FOXCAT" fuel. This yields a fuel of about 7.5 % nitro with 22.5% oil of which over 50% is castor (this makes a great stunt fuel for the ABC, ABN, and AAC engines). Hope this helps.
