Title: New Umland short kit .......F-86 Sabre
Post by: Clint Ormosen on July 04, 2012, 04:53:32 AM
.....and I've got the first one in my hands already. After relentless pestering by me, Walter has finished the plans and cut the first short kit of Bob Lampione's F-86 Sabre. This will be the first kit built in my new shop (which will be finished very shortly now). The plane is on my top 5 all time "must build" list. Walter has done a beautiful job with the plans and the laser cutting. Can't wait to start this one.
Anyone interested in an F-86 need to contact Walter Umland.

Also, big thanks to Elliott Scott
for donating the beautiful wood in my kit! Thank you!

Just looks like a kit, Doc. I'll get some pics of the shop when it's completed. It was dry walled and taped this last week about ready for paint and benches.

I'll bet it (the new shop) will have insulation, a great heater and A/C unit...just a guess.  LL~

Looks like I need to email WU. This is the first I've heard of it. Why?  :'( Steve

Yes, well insulated with a 22 seer 1.5 ton AC/heat pump system. 72 degrees all summer long for about 30 bucks a month. Maybe less.

You haven't heard because I didn't tell anyone. Till now.

Great memories for me concerning the F-86 Sabre. With Bob flying it, this was the time I ever saw anyone do a full pattern. It was also the first full fuselage plane I ever saw.
In Bob's hands, the plane flew spectacular.

I'm really glad to finally see this model coming into "production".  I gave Walter a signed set of plans for Bobby Champione's Sabre several years ago.  I thought it had just fallen by the way side due to lack of interest.  A NATS winner that with the power plants available today will make a great flying machine!  (I don't think I would try the old Fox .35 in one these days!  :o   :## )

Neat,
I was just reading through the old FM mag that had Bob's original article and thinking that would be a neat plane in Navy Blue!  i see Walt still has a couple of short kits left, too.... %^@

So Clint, you will have this flying by Goyet (2012 edition), correct?

What era is this model from? Classic legal? If still in "boxed kit" form by Goyet maybe you can brinig it out for the fans to enjoy?

Not the original Sabre, but a very nice, recent replica of it. No doubt with more engine under the hood.  y1 Steve

Good pic, Steve. Who's model is that? I'm going to do the same thing, replicate Bobs NATS winning Sabre. I love the paint scheme!

That looks like Champione's new one he made a few years ago.

Bobby's "New" one was powered with a Big Jim Hemi ST .46.  He lost it to a lead out wire chaffing on a LG wire "spur" inside the wing.

I am not sure who got the pieces............
