Title: New SV-11 finished and ready to fly
Post by: Matt Colan on May 24, 2016, 03:57:09 PM
One day while in Gene Martine's shop, I saw a wing laying on top of a cabinet. I inquired about it and he said it was a Bill Rich SV-11 foam wing. He asked me if I wanted it and eventually I took the wing back to my apartment at school last August. I started building an SV-11 and finished it today.

Power is a PA 75 and the final weight came out to 65 ounces, which I am very happy with, especially since this plane came out almost two ounces lighter than my Staris. This is the second airplane i finished with Chromabase. The more I use it, the more I like it and am looking to stick with this paint in the future.

The first flights will hopefully come in the next couple days.

One day while in Gene Martine's shop,

That's why I wasn't winning the Nats at 18!  It's because I didn't hang with Stunt Legends in their shops!

Well, that and an inborn lack of talent, but we won't dwell on that...

Gene has helped me out a ton over the past couple years building, finishing and flying.  He opened up his shop to me when work needed to be done on an airplane, whether it was maintenance that I couldn't do in my apartment, building tips, or painting two airplanes.  I can't thank him enough for the help he's given during that time.

First flights on the SV-11 look like they will happen tomorrow!

I got my first four flights on the SV-11 today.  The airplane is absolutely incredible!! It is one of the top two or three airplanes I've ever flown in my life!  The PA 75 is an incredible engine! I flew one flight at 5.7 and the airplane didn't hesitate anywhere in the pattern.

I couldn't be more pleased with the airplane! I'm hoping to get more flights on it tomorrow, and get some video of it in flight.

Great looking plane,  good smooth pattern,  but I took pattern points away.  It's 2 1/2 laps between hour glass and over head eight.  You should be in the running where ever you go with full pettern points.

By the way I looked at that several times to make sure these eyes weren't deceiving me. H^^

I did 1 1/2 on that flight to make sure I could get through the four leaf. I spent a long time on the ground setting the needle.  H^^

Great flying Matt.

That's the kind of airplane I need. An airplane the keeps getting better and better, in spite of me!  ;D

I love that SV-11. Sounds so good out there on the farm field.
Fun to watch you fly that pattern.

The low fuel surge in the overhead eight and clover would get me every time!

I'm probably gonna make a cap and modify the tank to allow for another 1/4-1/2oz of fuel. 7 1/2oz is cutting it close as you can see.
