Possible New Kit Release
« on: January 06, 2018, 05:27:26 PM »
This is the Petrov 7CC.  As you might guess, from a Russian designer.  I have had some preliminary conversations with Eric Rule at RSM and I can produce a kit if there is enough interest in the design.  It can be for glow or electric.   Let me know what you think.

Thank you
Mike

Gordon my Russian is not very good.  All of the numbers on the plan are in metrics and I do know that the wingspan is 55 1/2 inches and that is about as far as I have gotten right now.  I am still in the process of deciphering a lot of this.

Interesting popups launching from the Russian site.....
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

Matt the picture is great but the links are full of spam.  Can you edit your post and leave the picture but delete the links...they do not pertain to the model.. T

At this point and time, I am still gathering information through a contact in Russia and there is a bit of a language barrier to overcome. All the measurements are in metrics and that has to be converted. From what I am told by my contact in Russia who knew Evgeny Petrov, the model was first constructed in 1976. I still have a lot of information to gather before this would ever be produced as a kit. Mr. Petrov passed away several years ago so I am gathering what information I can through some of his surviving friends in Russia. I understand all of the outdated designs that some of you are pointing out and if we can address some of that without ruining the integrity and beauty of the model we will. I have to get with Eric Rule at RSM and work a lot of details out before this kit could ever happen. I appreciate your input and will keep you informed as we translate a lot of the writings on the model. I was more or less just wanting to see if the basic design was appealing to everyone. Thank you again. Mike.

Mike this is the design I've been trying to scale off and on for a couple years.  I hope you can obtain a reasonable drawing.  The one you are showing is (I believe) the cad drawing done later at a much smaller scale.  When I've tried to photo enlarge it it goes to an indiscernible mess.  Let me know if you get a good full size plan.  Thanks!

Good looking plane, but I’m not too keen on the thin airfoil with aft high point.
Maybe if I didn’t build so heavy, it wouldn’t matter😎

I think you’re correct, and building light would not be the optimal solution. That said, I presume you’re aware that some Monokote colors are heavier than others.

Are the Russia moping up in world competition?  Is that why there is an interest in this model?  I can't imagine it's worth the effort over existing designs available now.    ???   ???   ???   Are the Russia flyers state sponsored?

No, sort of and don’t think so anymore.

This design was a champ in the early- mid sixties.  It would be for Classic these days.  It would be comparable to most designs in the era and can handle a bit larger engines.  I plan to use something from my Iron Curtain engine shelf- Raduga 7 cc most likely.  (About a .42).
Before the fall of the Curtain the USSR did pay a full time team of modelers.  These days I sort of doubt it but don’t know for a fact.

No Howard, I was not aware of this fact.
I will do some serious research on this. Thanks for the tip

Now we need someone to do a repro of the TALKA 42 .

" Though we of the soviet socialist republic recognise the sporting achievements of the capitalist nations , we do not recognise the capitalist nations '"

Was a similar Quote from a ' C C C P ' competitor at a 1970 prize giving, quoted in one of the magazines .  LL~ LL~ .

Ive dug out the ' plan ' from a magazine I tripped over at ' the computor is about to vanish ' time at the Library , Definately that aeroplane .
looks like He built two or three maybe with minor variations .  :-\

Its on the way .

I may try and nail together a accurrate line drawing of the layout , within 1/4 m.m. should be close enough .  S?P S?P ;D & send it through .

outside of that , from the retro discovery site , this one appears to be noted as KRAMSKIH 5.6 cc , and has ' 0.33 ( cu in ) on the drg .IS IT the same ' team ' ?

There's some pretty cool designs from those older days from Russia too. Not necessarily better but different from what people in the west are used to.

Not sure if there's ever been drawings available for this:
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

OK...redirecting focus back to the original question ,  The appeal of this airplane is its LOOKS.

Here is a post that Ted Fancher put on my facebook page about this model.  I think he summed it up as far as the aethetics of the model.

"The trike gear absolutely makes this ship. It's got a Ryan Navion air about it that screams tricycle landing gear, please! (although you sucked up the gear after take off with the Navion) Love the profile view and the combination of a straight trailing edge combined with the elliptical leading edge. Wouldn't change a thing! I'm sure I can recall a World Champs report in the '70s with a picture of this ship."
Ted Fancher

Keep the feedback coming.  These comments are very helpful and so far very encouraging..

SO , will Gardner do some A B C Baffled Raduga P / Ls.  ;D LL~ Actually , think it'd be near enough a Talka , if it were so . ???

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Noblers and half the other birds on the planet DONT have ' modern ??  :P :-[ airfoils , and have flown succesfully for generations .

The AFT ' high point ' correspondingly likely carries a aft C.G. for rapid response , tight squares . To my mind it'd be a mistake to ' mess haphazardly with the design .
Could not fly ' as original ' if it were . The ' clean ' airfoil would cut cleanly through rough air . Not bounce everywhere like these modern barges . S?P LL~ n1

Was going to relate , getting the airfoil from the ' plan ' enclosed ( of the two wheeler ) as its clear and readable , tracing the three on clear paper , to see if inaccuracies have crept in .
regarding less exact copies ??

As the Gieske Nobler has won 5 U S Nats & a W C or two , along with Werwages ' not that thick ' airfoils ,  I cant see it worth D F R P there , as it'd ' reconfigure ' the Aero Dynamics
and likly result in a ' out of trim ' configuration .

The Other Plan in the mail , with same bellcrank location ( which I believe enhances manoureability ) and similar construction , must be from the same ' school ; if not ' author ' .

AnywaY, THERES A FULL RIB SCHEDULE ON THE DRAWING ON THE WAY .  H^^

From all the russian designs I like "Format" by Valentin Salenek the most. Would like to have it in my collection. I believe it could be quite competitive even these days.

Ignore / Disregard my Rant . ( Except the baffled abc Radunga bit . ) Obviously anybody who drove a ' unimpoved ' 60s/70s vehical would be borish , lacking in discernment , and likely have trouble .  S?P S?P

think this is that EB1130 in photo up there.
This is the uver fing ( the bugged one ) From the Structure etc , it appears to be a close relation .

The trusty cucalator has the drg ( yours ) as 1.71 root chord depth .The other ( same ) drtg states

40.4 root , 26.6 tip ,

but the masterpiece above , which is ' on its way ' scales at 51.77 mm or 2 inch plus , root depth .

if one was ' keeping it in the familly ' it would dictate stealing the airfoil from this proven design .

Seems a few more than similar semi elliptic short flap things in that part of the world .

Ok, obviously inimitable fuse lines of Genesis inspared this guy, but whom haven't. I remember myself in my teens drawing various versions of Genesis all over my school notebooks. Truly speeking, Genesis and Les's Stiletto was the biggest inspirations at that time.  ::)
