New stooge works
« on: September 17, 2018, 08:34:36 PM »
Well I got off my keester and made a stooge for 35 size combat ships.  Haven't checked yet but the little 15 size should work.  Made at least a half dozen take offs.  First flight was only flight that ran the tank dry.  The rest of the flights the engine would just quit after doing a loop.    Must be the fuel as there was no dirt in the filter of course it could be a plug.  But on three different airplanes.  Any way I was letting the weight of the ply pieces drop to release the plane.  Will add a spring to make the release faster.  Any way I'm happy.

Last picture is getting ready for second launch.  Had the video camera out but don't think I got any good shots. H^^

Well I finally downloaded what I thought would be video of the use of the new stooge.  I now have pictures of some old stupid looking man, scenery around the flying circle and shots of the planes in the air.   Now I know what I did wrong.  Maybe video next time out. ??? HB~>

The secret must be the carpet strip. Does it have to be green?

Nice work, Doc. Now, I have some kitchen cabinets that could stand being replaced....

McDivot

PS--One of the guys out here had a sleeve made out of folded white packing foam. Held the sleeve in some kind of sawhorse or chair arrangement. I can't remember what, exactly. He shoved the outboard wing into the sleeve. When he wanted to launch, he just backed up. Seemed to work, but looked a bit risky--just the kind of thing a combat guy would love....

I've been fortunate enough to have watched the Minors and Mears fly out of their stooge.  It does look scary, but they make it look easy too.   By the way have added a elastic band to make the pieces drop faster when released.  Now to get my vehicle and decent day to try it again.D>K

All you really need is a screwdriver, positioned halfway between the model and handle. Move the model to the circle centre so the lines pass around it. Start engine and release the model in a direction that will keep the lines tight. Simple!

Here's another version of the same idea. Probably best for .15 ci models and below.

Nice gadget qaz, but I don't see how it could work for a gear-less combat wing.

Great job on the stooge, John  H^^

Added a rubber band to the retainer on inboard side for quick release.   Also elevated the front of it so plane doesn't fall to the ground so fast.  May raise it more.  Have learned om third flight tonight that engine has to be running faster than a four cycle.   Have now three flights on the Jerk Line Special and an attempted flight on Equalizer.   Once engine was leaned out it flew.   For got how fast these things are. D>K

Oh the piece of carpet is not doing much good any more.  May get replaced with adjustable thingy. HB~>

It would be verrry interesting to try it without a LG. I'd expect something over 50% success rate...maybe!  y1 Steve
