New ship For 2019 Finished and Flown
« on: April 30, 2019, 02:30:33 PM »
There is nothing like the anxiety of a new plane's first flight. Well I got pass that today and put in about 14 flights on this year's ship and so far so good.
Very similar design and last year's plane, a little bigger wing and different fuse construction. (similar to the North West Guys)

It has a Cobra 3515 740kv motor, I switched this year to an Igor timer and ESC and it is powered by Thunder power 6S 2800 batteries.

I hope that today session wasn't just new plane shine and smell!!!

Very nice looking ship Joe.  Glad the first flights went well.  I’ll be doing that myself in a few days when this spring monsoon rolls out of here.

Hello Joseph,
Congratulations!
I have used Cobra 3515/18 last year flying another full size (59-60" span and 64.5 oz. RTF weight ) plane and, unfortunately, I have burned this motor. To this day I do not know why because I did not push it to its limits (36 Amps. continuous). I was and I am using Igor's active timer, Spin66 ESC, 6s 2800 mAh. Thunder Power batteries and Igor's 12x5x3 narrow carbon composite props.

I wonder if you are willing to share some technical details regarding your setup. If yes, please answer the following questions:
What is the RTF weight and the wings total area (with flaps) of your newest plane? What prop. are you using? What are the launch RPM? What is the 6S battery drain after the pattern? What is the lap time and the lines length eye-to-eye? Are you using the active timer boost and, if yes, what sensitivity are you using?

I have another, almost new, Cobra 3515/18 but after burning the first one I was reluctant to use it in my newest plane (attached). This plane will be powered by either Plettenberg 15-22 with the cooling fan or MVVS 8.0 or Cobra C-3520/14 and 6S 2800 mAh. Thunder Power batteries.

Happy Flying,
Matt

Please tell me that you don't take 14 batteries to the field.  Field charger maybe?  Any recommendations?  We have A/C at our field.

Only 10 batteries, 9 patterns and 5 short flights to get lap time and wings level. However if I had more batteries I would flown more!!!
