New Ride for 23
« on: April 11, 2023, 07:29:17 PM »
Steven’s new ride for 2023, our first attempt at a composite plane. He liked the Axioma that he flew at the Worlds, so we decided to build one. It came out a few oz more then we wanted. I took it for a test session on Monday, as he was at school (Ha Ha). It has a lot of promise. Here are a few shots of it.

Did yall make the molds from an Axioma?

Planes looks great!  Did you paint it in the mold or afterwards?

Doug,
Made the wing molds from the Axioma. We borrowed a shark fuse mold from Orestes. Yes painted white in the molds.

I am curious, do you find that you run a way aft LO position and more forward CG as well???

Hey Doug,
On this design it seems to like a forward LO position. The CG is at about 18%.
Now I find with my High Voltage the LO position is pretty far back and the CG is 12 to 15%. So go figure???

I'm curious, what all-up weight did you guys arrive at? Also, did you use balsa or foam as your core material?
I noticed that the choice of paint affects the weight a lot- Klasskote lays down much lighter than the Rustoleum primer. We need to compare notes at the Nats -- this will be the first time in history when all Seniors are sporting all composite planes.

Mike,
All up weight is 66oz. we used both balsa and foam!!! The fuse is wood as a core material. The wings and tail at foam skins. So a hybrid!
