I have not had much time to build due to the wonderful economy, so I bought 2 profile SV-22's built by Tom Morris for practice. I will fly them at non NATS contest and practice for finding out where 5 foot bottoms are. They will be powered by a PA 65 SE and a DS 60 Lite Ringed SE. If they fly as good as my full bodied SV-22's I will be very pleased. I am going with Rust-Oleum with a simple yellow, black and white finish. No crying when I hit the ground with them.

Curtis,
Sounds like a good plan. The SV22 planform and airfoil is definitely a good one.
Of course Profiles never seem to have the same potential as a built up fuselage due to the difficulty (or impossibility) of making the link between the wing and the stab stiff enough (read rear of the fuselage). This problem seems to multiply as the airplane gets larger and the wind blows stronger.
Please understand I'm not being critical it sounds like you are likely fully aware of this problem since your intention is to use them for practice.
I have a kit built profile Cardinal that I use for the same purpose and in reasonable conditions it flies as good as anything I've ever built. When the wind blows, like it does in most contest conditions however, the limitations of the fuselage show themselves.
It would be interesting to use one of these in Profile Expert here in Tucson. Just might try it!

These fuselage's are built up and are very stiff. Not to the level of a full bodied but much better than a sheet balsa profile. I will get someone to film the planes in flight and on the ground to see if the back end gets the shakes.

Yeah,
That helps, my Cardinal is also built up with Carbon trusses but....it's the space between the sides atha is also very important in torsional stiffness of a "box" structure. It's just impossible to get where it needs to be with 1/2 inch between the sides, even with stiffer material and prayers!
Let me know how it works out...seriously!

Noel Drindak's "Berserker" 60 size profile featured in Stunt News several years ago was closely patterned after an SV-22. The fuse was laminated, and used 1/64" ply to maintain rigidity. Very robust engine mounting area as well. Outstanding flying ability due to the strong fuse design, great motor runs, and fine "numbers" from Randy Smith. Flew with PA 65 and RoJett 65. Excellent package!

The "Hobo" is coming!
