New product just listed
« on: October 14, 2012, 04:30:08 PM »
Please check out the Vendor's Corner under RSM Distribution. I just posted notice of a new product, the Capacity Controller. This little gem will check the remaining charge in your battery (it also will check the individual cells). Nice and small, it fits into your flight box. This is what I use to check my batteries before every flight. Never have to worry about a partially charged battery going into the model and my flight stopping suddenly when the voltage drops.

Thanks
Eric Rule

For electric stunt, everyone I know, and myself included, starts with a fresh charge.  After some experience, one gets to know how long a charge will last.  Since LiPO cells must never be run completely down, we  always put the battery back on charge long before they get low enough to cause any flight problems.

I guess it's true that the R/C guys routinely run flight batteries until they quit.  That is OK for R/C, but not C/L.

Hi Floyd:

Thanks for your post. I'm not really sure what point you are attempting to make. If it is that you never have to worry about popping a used battery into your model that is great! Unfortunately some of us have done that with the result that our model stops running at some point in the flight when the voltage drops below the safety cut off point (or voltage drop point if you have it set up that way).

This little flight box tool works great to protect the rest of us. All we have to do is to plug the battery into the controller. We then get a reading of exactly how much mAh is in the battery. Since I have obtained this tool I have never had to worry about popping in a used battery. It also gives me a really nice reading of what is left after a flight. That way I can know for certain just how much of the charge I used for the flight. No need to do a whole bunch of calculations to determine if I am using the right capacity battery.

Like most products on the market the Capacity Controller is not for everyone. It is just a really "neat" thing to have in my flight box.

Best regards
Eric Rule

Eric it sounds like a very good piece of equipment for those of us who may not be electric gurus yet and are still learning.  Thanks for offering it.

Eric, for people like me it would come in very handy.  Some times I forget to check my pit box battery or even the glo igniter.  Of course I am still hoping for an electric set up for Christmas.

I don't care how much you beg, John. I am not getting you an electric set up for Christmas.

Eric, how come your advertisements don't show up on SSW? Len's got a whole new board devoted just to electric power.

What does that have to do with SSW Doc? You have me stumped?

Hi Bill;

As a person who owns a company that sells product to people who use this forum and SSW I do not feel it is proper for me to place adds in the forum itself. That is why I do not post anything that is advertising. Where there is a "Vendors' Corner" such as the one on this forum I will place data concerning product offerings we have. The only thing I will do is to place a general notice in the main forum directing interested parties to the Vendors' Corner.

Regards
Eric

Andy B and I use a similar, if not identical product to the one Eric offers, and it is invaluable.  It tells state of charge before and after flight for judging whether you have power deficit or more to spare in your chosen battery, and as noted will guarantee (if you use it!) not going off with a used cell.   The individual cell measurements can tell if a battery is going south on you. Intelligent use will save you a LOT of grief!

The other items that we count on are a Watt/Amp/Voltage meter for measurements while the motor is on, and a "Servo Tester" to replace the timer to see if all is working well.  See Andy's posts for more on this stuff.

You can't know too much about what is going on; but your sure can know too little!
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Doc

I want an all electric this Christmas also.  I sure hope it's an American "Flyer".  If not, Lionel would be OK too.
