So I am getting closer to finishing my SV-31.
I thought I would put a picture up here of a paint job idea I had.
I used Derek's old Dreadnought picture and had to draw some, erase some etc so it is not perfect but it gives you an idea...

What do you guys think?

I really like the color choice Aaron! It really pops on the white background and the multi-stripe profile will be pleasing on your eyes(it won't dissapear on you!). Nice choice!
-
I bet Lampione would like those colour choices! n~

I'd prefer a nice hot blue to the purple. The outboard wing looks a little ho-hum... LL~ Steve

Man oh Man. That looks like a Hunk a Hunk Ah Burning graphics.

What type (brand) of paint are you using to get that shade of green? y1

Aaron,
Home Depot, Behr?

Aaron,
Cool layout - what program are you using to do the layout/plan?
Best, DennisT

It's absolutely true that the judges count the number of colors on a stunter, multiply by 2, and that's your appearance score! My personal rule is: no more than 3 colors. This plane fits my standard.

Really nice. I like the colors and symetry too. Try reversing the star on the wing and see what effect it has, if any.
-
Steve Fitton and Aaron,
I sure do like those color choices. I probably would add one/two more colors but I need to think about what that would me. Maybe a purple and bright orange candy apple for shading letters and numbers over a gold base not silver. I'd use the gold or orange through the center like I do most of my graphics.
Cheers,
Bob "Champione" Lampione

Don't leave out the i when you are painting the name.

Aaron,
I really like the center stripe down the fuselage and the darker stripe below with the white bottom block, I agree with Zuriel, try moving the star around, White. purple lime green, very bright,
Maybe neon will come back in style, I sure painted alot of neon stripes on mini trucks in the 90's

I took an old Post of Derek's Dreadnought and tried to fix the rudder/fuse/canopy etc to match the SV31.
I then just used photoshop free hand and line tools to make stuff...
It is not really scientific but i just wanted an idea.
As far as the Colors I don't know for sure where I am going to find them but I was reminiscing about the old Neon 90s :)

Nice color combination. I'm planning on using a lime green for my next stunt plane to match my 1971 Dodge Challenger 440 six-pak Sassy Grass Green car.
Nothing like the High Impact colors Dodge and Plymouth used in the 70's.

Hmmm that purple could easily be plum crazy!
Doesn't Dodge or someone have a really bright lime green out now?
-
I must admit I always loved the look of this plane, this picture really doesn't do it much justice but you get the idea.
-
great minds must think alike!
i drew this last weekend its not a controline but something else im working on.
the green that plymouth had in 70 was code j5 (same as dodge) it was called "sub lime", in 71 the color was changed to code j6 "sassy green" it looks about the same to me.you can get it by looking up on auto color charts from 1970 or 1971
and yes i am going to use "plum crazy" purple, code c7 from 70 or 71 also
the wife's 72 cuda is "moulin rouge" or "panther pink" if it was a challenger sometimes the names were different between dodge and plymouth for the same color

Not as nice as the F-14 but nice :)

Sassy Grass Green is the same as Go Green, one was for a Challenger and the other was for a Plymouth.
Sub Line Green was 1970 and was a little brighter than the 71 Sassy Grass and Go Green.
Our family car in the 70s was a Dodge T/A Challenger 340 six-pak, Vitamin C Orange and our son had a AAR Cuda Rally Red. At 71 years old I still drive my 1971 Dodge R/T 440 six-pak. Sassy Grass Green. My next stunt plane I will be using some of Mopars High Impact colors.
-
Do they have Heavy Impact colors? That's what I need.

Although the lime works, it's too much Kawasaki.. Try a brilliant yellow. That works with purple, all except very light shades of blue, as well as red, pink, orange, and of course black. It doesn't work with white or colors too light to provide a decent contrast.
You all know what a fashion guru I am when it comes to model airplanes, so take my valuable advice free, and go forth with it!

Let me tell you --In stunt (F2B) we are very lucky to be able to choose a color selection based solely on aesthetics. For a few years I flew and competed in R.C.Pattern (F3A). That is where the visibility aspect of paint schemes really comes into play. Most of my crashes came about because of dis-orientation.(apart from 5 mid-airs and a few radio failures). Stunt fliers always know whether the plane is upright or inverted. We never have to decide if it is coming or going. Our plane is never more than 70 feet away . What a luxury.Choosing a paint scheme is wide open to personal preference. Now the things that I fret over are --Am I choosing a scheme that is artistic? --Is it too pretentious? Am I willing to put in that much time masking it out? Can I afford the masks for all that lettering? Is it too copycat? Gee I love this part of our hobby. During the weeks that I spend building a new plane , I think about the paint scheme every free moment. T.V. commercials etc.I like to keep a clip board near my T.V. chair for sketching.
Gee what a great hobby. Keith Varley

Perhaps I should mention that two wonderful sources of inspiration are the planes of P.T.G. and also the excellent web site of Claus Maikis--

Hi John,
I do believe I have some Kawasaki Green, Plum Crazy and Panther Pink left in the workshop, all are PPG lacquer........ along with a few more colors. The guy at the local parts store gave me a ton of paint when lacquers were taken off the shelf here in NC. The real pretty ones are the unclaimed Mercedes Benz colors he gave me. It was amazing how many quarts of paint that they had mixed and never got picked up. And it was good fortune for me that I knew the paint guy! LOL!!
Aaron does all his building and painting here at "Dad's" house. :o LL~
