Testors Series 5000 .049 Engine and Airplane Plan
« on: June 13, 2015, 12:05:51 PM »
    I ran into a friend of mine today who asked me for help in locating a plan. He thinks it was called "Whiplash" and it came as a plane with the Testors .049 series 5000 engine when they introduced it. It either came with the engine in the blister pack, or you had to send off for the plan. I seem to remember this. I had the engine back in the day, but don't have the plan. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I'm interested in a copy of the plan, paper or digital. A quick google search hasn't turned anything up.
  Thanks a lot for any and all help.

Your friend is probably referring to the Ambush.
Attached,  is a .pdf plan of the Ambush adapted for a Cox .049.

Laser-cut, "Ted Fancher Precision-Pro" Hard Point Handle Kits are available again.  PM for info.

   Hi Brent;
    I'm surprised I didn't think of this. It makes sense. Bill Netzeband was working for Testors at the time I believe and had input on the design of the engines. And the way the Ambush goes together fits the description he drew out on a white dry erase board. I'm interested in what others may think also. Especially if someone out there has a copy of the plan that was related to the Testors .049 engine.
   Thanks a lot,

Bill gave me permission to kit the Ambush prior to his death, and even provided CAD files.  I was assisting Alan Brickhaus with an article for Flying Models prior to Alan's untimely death.  Alan, with assistance from a friend, helped quite a few kids in his neighborhood build the modified version for Cox engines.

The reports I've seen on the Testors .049 you refer to were quite good.  It may be a well kept secret that it easily outruns the Cox Babe Bee and Golden Bee engines.
