Any chance we can leave BOM stuff alone?

Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with just leaving it as is? There is nothing wrong with keeping the rule for the sake of tradition. Tradition is a foundation of culture. USA has a unique Stunt culture!

Having grown up outside of the United States, I can tell you from my experience: people around the world are impressed by our culture. At the same time, they laugh at us for constant bickering over little things.

   I am generally against banning topics. There are certainly legitimate conversations and arguments to be made about the BOM, even for the "con" side. But I guess I am an optimist because that rarely happens.

    I know a lot of, if not all, of the participants, and it certainly doesn't bring out the best in people.

Hi Brett,

Yeah, banning any "model airplane topic" would be against my basic beliefs, but I hate to let it get to me and I lose my better judgment.  It ain't worth that to me.  I don't think that neither the actual people whom the rule affects, nor the AMA, is going to wet it be dropped in my lifetime.  "Some", though, just won't accept those facts.

You know that no one wil ever accuse me of ever burying my head in the sand. 

Civil ways of talking about it on internet forums is being very, very optimistic, and I have always been an optimistic person.  Neither you, nor I, nor anyone else who wants to keep it have ever started a "discussion on the BOM" (actually arguments) until you started this thread, from all that I can remember.

Bill there are no arguments. The thread title says what the thread is about. If a person wishes no NOT talk or READ the subject mater. It simple they do not have to open the thread. I am not the BAD guy. I wish to see where we really are in this heated BOM debate.

I agree with many others the current definition of the average kit is a joke and needs fixed. Lets hash out the wording to the average kit.

Average kit. If its based on sales then ARF/ARC. If the basis is total #'s of CL kits on the market then Flat box

I think those whom "laugh at the constant bickering" from oversea's might not laugh so much if they saw the level of detail in a US Model sitting in the front rows at AP Judging.. Its beyond what you can comprehend and far superior to anything I've seen at any worlds by any flier.  * FACT *

You think you know fit and finish...  Photo's dont do them justice.  The way they acheived that level of finish is by constantly pushing eachother to do better and better. One person spends 300 hrs finishing - the next spends 350 hrs - Now you have a standard to meet that is incredbile and is possible to match but only if you do ATLEAST that same level of prep work as your compeitiors.

You dont get that level of drive building 1 model a year for a Nationals when there is NO Bom rule or AP to reflect it.  - This is my opinion based on seeing several models at several Nats over a 20 year period without AP.

Nice models are built yes ; Where do they sit in a US Standard? You'd be shocked to know where..

Every time I finish a new plane, I think," Allright, this is as good as it gets" Then Uncle Jimby brings out his new plane and I go home and throw rocks at mine. Then I build a new one to top Uncle Jimby, then Phil Granderson shows up with a new one and I'm throwing rocks again.
One of the great things about flying around these parts, is that the level of flying and craftsmanship keeps getting better and better.
Its been wonderful to have Ted, Brett, Dave, Phil, Uncle Jimby and the late Jim Tichy as my modeling mentors.
I will never be able to thank these guys enough.
